Carlsbad Village Faire May 1, 2022

One of the favorite arts and craft fairs returns to Carlsbad Village on Sunday May 1. Supposedly, the Carlsbad Village Street Faire is the largest outdoor 1-day fair in the US (other than perhaps its counter-part, the November Carlsbad Village Faire).

The Carlsbad Village Faire takes place from 8 am until 5 pm, so you have plenty of time to enjoy hundreds of vendors and shop all you want.

The Carlsbad Village Faire is in the heart of town, along Grand Avenue from Carlsbad Boulevard to Jefferson. The Faire will spill over onto side streets, including State Street over to Carlsbad Village Drive. [note - photo is from a different art fair in the Village]

Signs are already out warning everyone about this special event, since much of the parking will not be available due to the vendor booths, and certain streets will be closed.

The Carlsbad Village Faire is pretty impressive. Having attended several times I think it’s not cliché-ish to say there is probably something for everyone, with hundreds of vendors.

And if you get tired of the Faire you are surrounded by numerous local Carlsbad Village retailers.

They say to expect 85,000 or so attendees so it will be crowded and parking could be a challenge.

So what can you expect to find? You can plan on unique clothing, arts and crafts, gift items, home furnishings and accessories, collectibles, plants and garden items, antiques, products from around the world, and so much more.

There will also be an old-fashioned pancake breakfast, an international food court, and a children’s area.

It’s a fun time to explore the Village, despite the crowds. And the Carlsbad beaches are just a couple of blocks away for a stroll.

Plan on parking being limited due to the crowds, with many spaces taken up by Carlsbad Village Faire vendors, so arrive early if you can. The good news is parking is free in Carlsbad.

As an option, consider taking advantage of free shuttles offered throughout the day as in the past at roughly 15-minute intervals at 2 locations. Shuttles are located at the northwest corner of Sears at The Shoppes at Carlsbad (at the 78 and El Camino Real/Marron Road). The 2nd location is the Poinsettia Coaster Station on Avenida Encinas between Palomar Airport Road and Poinsettia Lane.

Another travel option is to take the Coaster train, with additional trains being offered that day. The train station is a short walk to the Faire.

Hello Jeff Dowler, CRS, if I was in the Carlsbad area, I would definitely attend Village Faire and most likely make a ton of purchases.

Hi Sheri Sperry - MCNE®

It would be easy to do, having done a bit of that myself over the years. It's better if I stay away since I don't just look. LOL.

As you know, Jeff, this kind of fair is totally my "thing." What wouldn't I give to live closer to attend it myself.

Jeff we don't have any fairs coming up, but several of the local churches do have some festivals in May.

How I do miss fairs like that where the gentle ocean breeze is gently passing through as well.

The breezes are certainly a nice part of being by the beach where it rarely gets too hot. Our weather allows for these events all year round.

I wish I had a video to share, but then taking vids with so many people around doesn't work all that well. I can tell you from first hand experience seeing so many vendors and so much variety in arts and crafts is incredible!

Hi Jeff - in one of our town here in Westchester they do hold a street fair.  It is the "main event" that weekend.  The largest means Carlsbad must be noteworthy.

Not sure how they know it's the largest...if that's true...but with 750+ vendors and crowds in excess of 85,000 it's pretty big regardless.
