What color is YOUR State? RED? BLUE? ....... Or GREEN?

flag I WAS JUST WONDERING --- IS NEW HAMPSHIRE GREEN?

I lived in San Francisco for over 25 years - Everyone in San Francisco is GREEN so I never questioned whether California was GREEN.  Then my husband got an opportunity to move to New Hampshire.  When I arrived in New Hampshire it was summer and it was HOT.

Then came fall and what a glorious cornucopia of color that was!  I had never seen anything like it before - I was in love with NH! fall

Then came lots and lots and lots of WHITE!  I never had seen so much WHITE.  And more WHITE and more WHITE.

white   Finally the snow melted and then came spring!  It was really exciting to see color again!

Then another New Hampshire FIRST -- NH holds the FIRST PRIMARY in the nation.  I went to see EVERY presidential candidate --  so I saw lots of RED and lots of BLUE!

I was just wondering  - Is New Hampshire GREEN? - Can I help buyers in New Hampshire find GREEN?

As a result of being invited to join ECO-ALL STARS~ The GREEN Scene, I took an hour and started exploring where I could find GREEN in NH.  I was surprised by what I discovered!

The State of New Hampshire has taken some first steps and offers some incentives to go GREEN.

  1.
    1. Solar skyspace easements: See RSA 477:49-51 which permits landowners to guarantee access to sunlight for an abutter's solar installation by restricting building height or vegetation that would cast a shadow on that solar installation.
    2. Streamlined facility siting approval process  This is a "one-stop" process, which is detailed in the New Hampshire Energy Plan, and may reduce project costs by shortening project timeline and by simplifying the process of identifying and complying with permitting and regulatory requirements.  This can be used for commercial-scale electricity generating projects and other large energy-related installations  (e.g. refineries).
    3. Renewable energy property tax exemption. RSA 72:61-72 permits cities and towns to offer exemptions from local property taxes for some renewable energy installations which includes solar thermal (e.g., to heat water), solar photovoltaic (to generate electricity), wind (to generate electricity) and central wood-fired heating systems (other than fireplaces or stoves).

Cities and Towns Also Provide Incentives ---  There are approximately sixty-two cities and towns have adopted one or more renewable energy property tax exemptions.  [Check with local officials for accuracy and currency of the list as these incentives change.]

HERE ARE ADDITIONAL RESOURCES for finding GREEN in NH  -- I know there are many more - this is a start!

  • Looking for a GREEN builder - this energy star website is very a good place to start.
  • The New Hampshire Sustainable Energy Association provides NH residents with an effective resources to help   them through the process of incorporating renewable energy and sustainable technologies.
  • Looking for a GREEN JOB in New Hamphsire?
  • Energy Efficient Mortgages (EEM) may be available - Mortgages can be conventional, FHA or VA.  The loans are aviable for both new and existing homes.  To learn more about EEMs contact Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the FHA or the VA. Additional information about writing energy-efficient mortgages can be found on the Web sites for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET)

This is just a beginning and I will have to look further  -   The snow is melting in NH .... and once again NH is turning GREEN - after all this is the month of MARCH!   green house

Just wondering - Is your State Green?

From Nevada Power:

By year-end 2007 Nevada will be the No. 1 state in the nation based on solar watts per capita and solar as a percentage of retail sales.

The rankings incorporate two major solar projects expected to go online in 2007: Nevada Solar One and the 10-megawatt SolarStar project to be built at Nellis Air Force Base, the largest solar-photovoltaic project in the country.

I would have to say I am in shock to read this and it's about time we harnessed some of the renewable energy and turned it in to electricity!

We do have other issues to deal with such as mining and nuclear waste but this is definitely a step in the right direction!

Hi Sue:  Thanks for stopping by.  I was really excited to find out so much information in NH.  I had no idea where to find Green builders -- I also was totally unaware of the mortgages available to consumers -- I think this would be a great area for real estate agents  to explore with their clients -- perhaps some of the mortgage AR members can fill us in further on these types of loans and the benefits to the consumers

You could spin off several localism blogs here. I hope many NH residents view your blog, very worthwhile.

Thanks Sue -- I am interested in finding out more about those mortgages as well.  With regard to builders, one of the GREEN builders spoke to the Realtors at our last meeting and I was really intrigued by all of the new things available.  What types of things do you think the consumer in NH would be most interested in?  I appreciate your taking the time to give me feedback - and I learn a lot from reading your blogs as well-- this is a new experience for me.

Hi Joan:  I was absolutely amazed at what I found out when I saw the Green builder presentation at our Nashua/Manchester Board Meeting.  Most realtors really don't know who is building Green -- or what materials may be options for their buyers.   I think it would be a great idea to spread the word in our State.

Joan, I think everyone is interested in what new "green" construction can offer. Maybe you could blog about the content of his talk that you heard?

Hi Sue:  That's a great idea -- the builder had a slide show so maybe I can see if that can be importated to the Localism site with the article.

Lola Thanks for the comments.  Since it looks like we are going to be getting a lot of snow, perhaps I can find some time to get a blog completed.

Hi Joan:  What a great website.  You are so creative and articulate.  I can tell you are type of person who believes in "being healthy, making choices, making a difference and sharing it too".  Therefore, I'm inviting you to my (and Eli's) web site.  I hope you will join me in my passion, plus make some additional money, regardless of your tremendous success in Real Estate.
I invite you to www.mymonavie.com/breathing.  MonaVie is based in Utah, another GREEN state.  They are making a difference by contributing money and educatino to the children of Brazil, while helping the people in the USA get healthier, wealthier and wiser.  www.themoreproject.org.  Keep up the infectious humor and valuable information.  I may need a home some-day, preferably in New Mexico, but who knows.  If in NH, I will contact you.  Maureen and Eli

Dear Maureen and Eli:  Thanks for your comments.  I will take a look at those websites.  With all the snow in NH, I don't blame you for considering NM.  I may join you.

 Regards,

Hi Joan, unfortunately I live in a totally RED state that will never do anything to try to be Green.  Lucky you, living in a state that is addressing the climate change issues.  Florida's state motto should be "climate change? no such thing, so come on down and mess us up some more".  Good post.
