The Gecko is a popular way to advertise Gecko Insurance, Gecko Green Lawn Service in Dallas, and even tourist information from the Wild Texas Travel Guide which explains very nicely how this popular lizard, also known as the Green Anole, is the most welcomed residential neighbor to the State of Texas!
For this blog, I am using my Garden Gecko to point out what you need to know if you are planning to move to Texas. Yes folks! There are certain environmental concerns that buyers should be wary of when relocating to the State of Texas and when it might be prudent to hire an Environmental Inspector.
ENVIRONMENTAL INSPECTIONS
The first thing you should know is to hire a credible REALTOR® and then a Home Inspector. If the Home Inspector has concerns that are outside of the inspector's area of expertise, such as environmental issues, they will recommend an Environmental Inspection. Concerns may include any of the following:
- Hazards
- Wetlands
- Endangered Species
- Asbestos
- Lead-Based Paint
- Mold
- Urea-Formaldehyde Insulation
- Underground Storage Tanks
- Toxic Waste
- Radon Gas
- Pesticides
- Other Pollutants
Now one thing you should know is that the Gecko is native to the Southeastern United States and is often found in residential areas and parks. You may see them climbing on fences, walls, bricks, trees, and low bushes. They are quite friendly and harmless to humans! Geckos are easy to spot because of their bright green color and if you are lucky enough to see the male Green Anole dewlap (that is the bright red skin on its neck) that he uses for courtship and territorial purposes, it is quite an amazing sight! They also love the sun! Geckos eat insects most humans aren't thrilled to see or have around their properties, such as spiders, roaches, crickets, and grubs. I am fortunate and proud to say none of the arthropod animals (insects) have been a problem for me; therefore, I LOVE Geckos!
Lead-Based Paint may be found on property built before 1978. Federal Law requires a seller to provide the buyer with a pamphlet titled "Protect Your Family from Lead in Your Home (TXR 2511); home records and reports the seller has concerning lead-based paint or hazards, and an opportunity to have the property inspected for lead-based paint or hazards.
Mold - The probability of mold occurs when there are copious amounts of mold visible and found on the property. For more information, the Texas Department of Insurance publishes a document titled "Protect Your Home from Mold" (TXR 2507).
Oak Wilt and Diseased Trees. Oak wilt is a fungus that affects certain oak trees. Conditions that may affect trees and other plants need to be inspected by a professional.
Well, I sure hope you learned a lot from the Green Gecko and this post was fun and educational!
