Having had the good fortune to grow up up in the DC area I've had the opportunity to watch the Nation's Capital fireworks from a number of different perspectives.
As a child my father used to park the car on the side of the road just outside of town with a great view of the Washington Monument. In my late 20's and early 30's I joined the masses on the Mall to listen to the Beach Boys and enjoy a picnic. When my children were small we found a special perch at the inside the gates of Fort Meyers in Arlington. Last year I had my first chance to watch the fireworks from a boat in the Potomac River.
No matter where I am though I stop and say THANK YOU to all of the men and women who have made the 4th of July possible. Without their sacrifice I wouldn't be able to enjoy a day filled with family and friends or an evening filled with awesome fireworks.
I hope as you prepare to enjoy yourself on Independence Day that you might take a moment to do the same.
If you can't make it to a spot to look at the fireworks on the mall then you can also check out some other smaller venues in the Northern Virginia area.

Cindy, so where are you going this year to watch the fireworks? D.C. always puts on quite a display. One great spot to watch is from Indigo Landing Restaurant (formerly Potowmack Landing) just south of Ronald Reagan National Airport. We did that a few years back.
