Friday's Food For Thought: The Unlikely Friendship!

A true friend stands up for you and stands by you, and accepts you as who you are. A true friend stays with you through good and difficult times and doesn't abandon you because it's easier or more comfortable to avoid you. They care about you and want to be there for you when you need them the most.

"To the world, you may be one person, but to one person, you may be the world." - Dr. Seuss.

We know that having good friends helps fulfill our lives and gives us happiness. Friends help us through the tough times: they’re there for us thick and thin, and they sometimes understand us better than we know ourselves.

We have many kinds of friends in different areas of life. We have friends who enjoy doing activities and fulfilling our social needs. Friends who are different from us don't speak the same language and don't eat the same or prepare food the way we do. Friends who may be far apart but have no problems picking up where we left off.

We know how much we enjoy friends who make us laugh more and cry less, bringing a smile to our hearts. Some friends stay a little longer on our path and become our family. We feel some people are strangers, but soon we discover there are no strangers, only "friends" we haven't met!

Sometimes the friendship falls apart because we have grown and taken different paths, or we realize the friendship we thought we had never really started.

So, how do we find true friendship?

A true friend stands up for you and stands by you, and accepts you as who you are. A true friend stays with you through good and difficult times and doesn't abandon you because it's easier or more comfortable to avoid you. They care about you and want to be there for you when you need them the most.

True friendship must grow over time.  And this type of friendship may blossom into a life-long friendship.

These friendships can also be between the unlikeliest of people or creatures.

Here's a heartwarming story about the unlikeliest of friendships; Lundy, the Chihuahua with special needs (spinal cord injury), and Herman, the pigeon who can't fly. Lundy and Herman might seem unlikely friends, but they are true friends and a match made in heaven!

Lundy and Herman's story can teach us valuable lessons about animals in need and True Friendship.

Birds of a feather may flock together, and dogs may be man's best friends, but these two loving friends prove love and friendship have no limits!

This story illustrates that your friends don’t need to be carbon copies of you, nor do they even have to be the same creature. As long as you are true friends and genuinely love each other, it will stand the test of time.

"Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart." -- Eleanor Roosevelt
