Philadelphia Steals & Deals Baby Formula Vs Gas

By
Real Estate Agent with HomeStarr Realty RS143922A

Let's talk about Philadelphia Steals & Deals this week. I did find much and I did find some disappointments. By that I mean advertisements that were not fulfilled. When I reached the stores the promised ads were not in. The answer I received was the order never arrived. It was not just for one item but for several. I said that gas was expensive and drove there for these advertised specials. They understood  apologized no rain checks. I was annoyed and left . It was not the day the ad started either. Went to my local store, picked up the chicken they advertised for almost the same price. What I did not like is they had chicken they were advertising  .79 more a pound  don't think I will be going back there for a long while.

Gas prices are through the roof   for premium  $ 5.26 which is what I put in my car it is slightly over  regular  $4.59 a gallon.  I guess we should be thankful as I saw a fellow blogger in California and their gas prices are over $6 and expect prices to go even higher .We are being told of course until after the Summer expect no relief . Therefore are still experiencing pain at the pump.

Ross the Dress for less store over 55 get 10% off on Tuesday  I did find some wonderful bargains too many. A beautiful planter of a woman that I have seen on other sites for upward of $40 priced here at $16+ a beautiful pop art picture at an incredible price of $24  not to mention other big planters that at other garden centers would have cost $69 for $29  plus many men and women's clothing at great prices many are Macy's and BEBE brands.Yoga pants can be purchased for $7.99 what a steal of a deal . Again, as I say when shopping know your prices and brands, but, at these prices you rarely lose. Keep your receipt easy return

After showing houses in Feasterville I stopped in a Liberty Ministry Thrift Store my good friends told me it was worth checking out. I worked at the Re/Max office down the road  before HomeStarr for many years  and had driven by but never stopped so today was the day. I was amazed at how big it was and some of the unusual things they had. They had some of the usual clothes, but I found myself gravitating to the furniture. They really had some beautiful pieces. . I found the perfect office high back padded chair with arms that looked like it had come out of a law office as there were 4. It would not fit in my car I called my friends and they just happened to be eating at the diner up the road.

While waiting I met this nice young man who worked there he told me that it was senior day Not that he was insinuating that I was a senior but if I was it would be 25%off . Wow  Steal of a Deal .  Dean & Paul  loved the chair and found a new Pan Am New Travel  Bag  for $3.99 we Googled and they sell for $69 Steal of a Deal . By the way, with discounts this Chair which I love $35  Steal - On our was out also found an amazing lamp . This is for my friend Ron and Alexandra Seigel  Challenge  we met a man with a Cockatoo on his shoulder. Well, I went right up and Dean said oh does it bite, The Man said may take your finger off. Dean knew I wanted to touch that bird, So I just said "Hello" Cockatoo Rocky answered HELLO  We had a nice conversation this delightful gentleman rescue  birds. This is a store you should stop in  never know what you will find. There was even a Grand Player Piano.

Another concern is Baby Formula and empty shelves scary. I know how I felt when the shelves were empty of cat food. My good friend is a grandmother and called me the other day so upset. How can they do this she asked me? She is such a good person mind you she takes care of her 98 year old mother. She went shopping for baby formula trying to help out her working daughter. She told me she had to go to three different stores before they found some taking her 98 year old mom with her. She is wondering why and how this has happened? I don't have an answer for her when it will end. Price gouging she said for our baby food searching to feed our babies'. Mothers in tears with added anxiety. There was no way to ease her anger and sadness

On the bright side Spring is here and even though it is May I wonder if the weather is more like the end of April instead of May. I received a dozen white rose from my Boys and we dug holes for my rose bush and hydrangea that I purchased   I found a mulch made out of recycled tires at  The Home Depot plus sturdy metal hooks to hang flower baskets.

Across the road was another Garden Center located in Bensalen called R&R I found beautiful hanging baskets of flowers so full and beautiful. They actually were the nicest I had seen for the best price.  The first place I actually had not walked out of.  Their plants were extremely  healthy and spoke to me. They even had outdoor & indoor palm trees.  I will be going back there.  Steal of a Deal for the quality they only accept cash

Let's Talk about the Echo Beach Property in Bensale going to settle this week, everything is ready I will say when you buy a property in Bensalem you can be sure the Electrical .Heater and chimney are all up to code - not only did the Home inspector check it, but the township wants it checked again by outside sources

The tax certification  is in so are the water & sewer certifications

The mortgage is approved and we are cleared to close

So next week there should be a new owner

Good morning, Hannah... fortunately, I'm still able to buy gas at $3.99/gallon at Sam's Club here in Charlotte. Reading your post about deals & steals for yoga pants, I realized I've never once in my life purchased or wore yoga pants! Not even quite sure what they are or how they differ from the leggings I wear for exercise. Meantime, the baby formula issue is beyond comprehension... I keep thinking this can't possibly be happening in the 21st century in the USA... I hate to think we are like the old Soviet Union, or Cuba, or Venezuela, etc.

Nina Hollander, Broker Not sure, but I think the difference in Yoga pants is the material & the pockets. They are very comfy. I cannot imagine that are babies will not have food I would be horrified if I had a baby and do not know what or how to answer people searching for a formula. Have to agree with you Nina breaks my heart

Hannah, lots going on for one week, and having this baby formula shortage is really scary.    We hopefully can scale back our driving to save a bit on gas.

Joan Cox I have scaled back quite a bit working from home and having two computers set up helps . When telling one of my friends, my great garden finds she insisted another was much better so we took a ride and stopped at the second hand store in Feasterville I scored a planter with tags and she found a slew of things. The Garden place was priced much higher than my local R&R but I found 2 beautiful spider plants

Hi Hannah - I drove my Honda Civic to our Florida House on Friday and Saturday and gas was very high except in South Carolina and Georgia.  Coming back in the Grand Cherokee the gas fill will be more expensive.

Grant Schneider  Can you imagine the pain of it all, if you had a giant SUV or another large car or truck like your Grand Cherokee ?  That will hurt !

Hannah not having what was advertised available, and then not offering a rain check would have ticked me off as well, and I would probably not return.

Hi Hannah- wow, you've been around!!!  Our gas prices have been creeping down however we noticed this last week they were beginning to rise. We're at around $3.80+ a gallon. What I've found amazing is that a dozen eggs have gone up over $1 a dozen. I don't know how families are doing it.

May 15, 2022 05:43 PM
Hannah Williams

Yes I agree Kathy Streib no bargains on eggs. Places where I was able to get eggs for .85 a dozen are now $3.89 a dozen . A friend of mine told me he heard Chicken stores were closed for lack of chicken. I found this hard to believe as a new Chick filet just opened near us. Although a friend of mine argued profusely with me that it had not. Very casually I drove her by it on our way to seeing homes.

Hannah Williams - first of all, how on earth did you come up with that graphic? It is AMAZING!!! The subject matter is tough and our overall headline news are depressing. You are the REAL deal. You are honest and you have an interesting way of broaching important topics.

Paragraph #1 - I know how you feel. I was so excited a few days ago I made a UTurn to get to a gas station that was advertising Gas at $4.09 per gallon. But after I paid and got my receipt, I saw a much higher price. When I looked at the sign again, there was very tiny print stating that was the price if you got a car wash and that price for the wash was RIDICULOUS! Lesson learned for me: READ THE FINE PRINT (which you can't do when driving)!

Paragraph 2 - I guess I should not complain. Your gas prices are much higher!!!

Paragraph 3 - those sound like decent prices. It has been so long that I bought clothes I wouldn't know what fits me until I try it on. But because I can't afford new clothes, I continue to wash clothes more frequently and settle for what I have. It is a crying shame!

Paragraph 4 - I made up mind long before COVID I was going to move and got rid of most of my furniture, except the essentials. Believe it or not, I have adjusted and the house seems bigger but it sitting on one chair is a pain in the you know what. If I could buy new furniture, I would have to think really, really, really hard.

Paragraph 5 - your shopping spree sounded like so much fun!!!

Paragraph  6 - don't get me started on a rant about baby formula. Isn't it strange how there was no problem until the leak came out on Roe vs Wade? Hmmmmmmm

Paragraph 7 - your boys are a God sent!!! White roses too! I love all roses, but my heart goes straight to the white ones. I hope you have continuous blooms!!!

Paragraph 8 - I don't have money for food or furniture but I will spend money on flowers!!! It is nurturing to my soul!!!!

Paragraph 9 - Yay! Getting ready to settle on property is always a good reason to celebrate, rejoice and be glad! Congratulations!!!

Hi Hannah,

How wonderful that you found that perfect chair and got such a special deal.  We spend a lot of time in our office chairs and they do need to be comfortable and getting a great price is even better.  On the other side, the first store that did not have the advertised products and would not give you a substitution or rain check, you are right to not go there again.  As far as I am concerned that is false advertising.

May 17, 2022 08:29 AM
Hannah Williams

Sheri Sperry - MCNE®  Love my chair it is so comfortable ,everything I could ask for so padded and it rocks - as far as the advertised specials what really upset me was they had the products, but they were marketed up -Perhaps it was the worker who was not aware and I really should have asked for the manager

Hannah:

It's so disappointing to see deals advertised and then not availabe, and no offer to make it right somehow.

I paid $6.29/gallon for mid-range gas today and that's on the less expensive side. Right down the street regularwas $6.35! Ouch!
