Know Any BeeKeepers that would like to tackle this?

Brenda J. Andrew Realtor

I had a fellow agent go out to a property in Mathis this morning, and this is what she found.  I have never seen a nest so large!  I had to share - I'm not sure what the owner is going to do.  She hasn't seen the property in a while, and her reaction to the picture was OMG!

Happy Friday Everyone!

I'm not an exterminator, or a beekeeper.

I would love to have the honey, so if you are looking to buy or sell Real Estate in the Corpus Christi, Conroe, Woodlands, Humble Areas, Give me a call 361-688-7064.

WOW Brenda J. Andrew That is HUGE!!! Yup, you will need a professional bee person to take care of that. Do you know if they are honey bees?

Hi Doug,

Yes, I do believe they are honey bees.  This would be a very precious commodity for someone!  Thanks for stopping by!

Although far from Ohio and patio home real estate, Bill Liz and Bill Spear this post has me thinking of you.

Thanks Michael - the owner had no idea these bees were there. The home had been abandoned for years.  One local guy told me he thought they had been there for at least 2 years to form a nest like that.  I thought it was really cool and had to share.  I'll check Liz & Bill's Comments and forward the info.  Have a great day!

There is probably a local beekeepers association.  Reach out to them.  Chances are someone there will be willing to go out and harvest/capture the bees and take them to their own hives.

That is a great idea.  I didn't realize there were associations for that.  It would be a great nest for someone.  Thank you so much!

Hi Liz and Bill, I am going to give him a call today.  Thanks for the info.  The owner had no idea they were there because the home had been abandoned for years.  I sent one of my pest guys the photo and he thinks they had been there for at least 2 years.  He gave me the name of someone, but I think this is the better route.  Thanks so much!

No doubt it would take some time to build up a nest that large.  In Ohio the cold weather would wipe out an exposed next like that (they'll instead find a crack and go between walls, hollow trees, etc.).  A pest guy will treat them at pests and most likely just exterminate them.  Beekeepers will look at them as more of a resource, and considering they're exposed like that, they'll capture the majority of the bees (we personally use a bee vacuum we put together), then cut the comb off the walls and put some of it in frames to put inside a regular beehive.

If the bees have gotten inside the walls, that will make it a a bit more complicated since they'll need to pull some boards to get to the rest of the colony.

Good luck!

I see you already heard from @Liz and Bill Spear - as soon as I read your title, I said, yes, I do know a beekeeper!

I wouldn't want to have seen that on a house I was going to see!

Hi Kat, I totally agree - I would not have wanted to see it either.  The agent that went out to the house, did not wait for the owner before she walked around the entire outside of the house.  Unfortunately by the time the owner got there, she told him there was no way she was going in.  I believe this house had to be a tear down, but at least something good is going to come out of it for someone!  Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Roy Kelley - I got lots of good information, but I like you was more intrigued with the image.  It is not very often you come across something like this!  Thanks for stopping by!

I recently saw a TV show on Discovery Channel about a guy named Walter Schumacher, the "Bee Czar". He is actually located in Travis Texas. This sounds like a job for him. Just Google the "Bee Czar" if you are still in need.
