21 Questions About Sheri Sperry - Learn More in "Sheri's Corner"

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Realty NRDS # 146013739

Besides the "About Me" page we have on our websites, I have a page called "Sheri's Corner".  It tells a little about me with links to blogs and also my work ethic.  I have the domain Sedona-Lifestyle.com as a link to that page.  But most of these questions and answers are not on that page.

21 Questions About Sheri Sperry

1. What was your first job and what did you learn from it?

Retail - I worked in the bedding department of May Co. in Whittier, CA. May Co. was absorbed into the Federated Department Stores which is now Macy's.

I learned skills working with the public, deadlines, and pressure working a sale.   It made me realize I love working with people.  I still fold towels the way I had to for the department displays!

2. How long have you been in real estate or related industry?

Rick and I have owned our own properties since 1972. We never rented. This was our last home in Corona California.

1280 Tesoro Way

I have been licensed in Arizona for 11 years but had done our own real estate transactions since the early 1980s and property management of 8 locations in Southern CA for a relative from 1980-1987.

We refinance a couple of different homes and I wasn't happy with the amount they had appraised the houses for.  So I did my own comps and made an argument for a better appraisal.  Each time they agreed with the higher amount based on the work I did.

Rick and I spent a lot of our weekends looking at new developments in Southern California.  Back when newspapers were in vogue, we would get a Sunday paper and find development to check out.  I learned about staging and new trends this way.  We have always loved real estate.

3. What is your biggest fear and what have you done to try to conquer it?

Public speaking.   Years ago, I joined some local speaking clubs, but do not have time for this now.

4. What would you do if you knew you would not fail?

I would run my own women's boutique.  I have always enjoyed fashion.

5. What is a habit you would love to eliminate or change?

I lack organization at home.

6. What is your favorite meal (forget about calories or what you shouldn't eat)?

Ange hair pasta and real Italian meatballs bolognese.  That moves into the next question.

7. What is something would wish you'd done?

Traveled to Sicily.  I have relatives who I have never met there.  I know this because my cousin has been there.  I love the Amalfi Coast, Positano, and Venice.  But I still want to go to Sicily.

8. Who has been the most influential in your life?

My mother and father.  My dad gave me my sales instinct. My mom gave me the ability to mother my family and take over her position as matriarch of our Moran Clan.  I was the oldest daughter of 5 siblings.  She never made me babysit them.  I did babysit for neighbors but not my siblings.

9. What are your favorite business-related books?

Anything Warren Buffet. My cousin knew exactly where he lived and we took a picture in front of his house.

10. Other than business books, what are your favorite things to read?

I like to veg out with Fashion magazines, and home design/trend magazines.

11. What are your top 5 favorite movies?

The Original Godfather, Love Actually, Christmas Vacation, Heat (Dinero and Pacino), and Mr. Holland's Opus.

12. If I came to your city for one day. what is the one thing I must do or see?

Sedona Summer Fun - Chapel Area of Sedona AZ 86336 from Rick & Sheri Sperry on Vimeo.

The Chapel in the Rocks - AKA - Chapel of the Holy Cross.   The energy and views are amazing.  It is the number one attraction to visit.

Chapel in the Rocks

Cathedral Rock is the most photographed in Sedona.

Cathedral Rock from Crescent Moon Park

13. If I came to your city to visit for one day, what is the one restaurant you would recommend?

Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill

Mariposa. It is a 5-Star experience. It is one of the top 100 most scenic restaurants in America.  The views are phenomenal (and so are the service and food). It is where I take people to impress them. Don't go there at night.  Make reservations 1.5 hours before Dusk. They can be weeks out so plan in advance.  This image looks directly into Soldiers Pass where there are some of the most expensive properties in Arizona.

14. If I was going to relocate to your area what advice would you give me that is unique to the area?

We get a lot of visitors and you must learn to work with Tourism and visitors.  It is like driving at the beach during summer but not quite as bad.  There are areas you can live in that are quiet and don't see tourists. I live in an area like that at the end of Soldiers Pass.

15. Do you have any special talents?

Although I have not done it in a while, I used to make my own clothes.
I was good at it and loved it.

16. Do you have any quirks.

I could live in my robe all day at home. Don't laugh! You probably could too!

17. What is your best character trait?

Honesty and Integrity

18. Have you ever done anything you would never do again because it was too hard or too dangerous?

Back in the 1970s, my husband had a motorcycle.  I would never ride on another motorcycle again.

19. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

At home, I like to pitter in my courtyard and backyard. When I can steal a little time from work, I like to veg out at a nice resort.

20. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you want to live"

Sedona - I live right next to the national forest and it is a 5-minute walk out the front door.  The image below is a walk at sunrise in my neighborhood.  Why would I want to live anywhere else?

Shadow Rock Walk

This is the trail right at the base of Coffeepot Rock.  A 5-minute hike from my front door.

21. What is something that we don't know about you that would surprise us?

My mom could not swim but thought it was important for all the kids to learn how to swim.  I was taking swim lessons when I was about 7 or 8 and failed my first test.  They made you jump into the deep end of the pool and it freaked me out even though I was a good swimmer.  Obviously, I had to overcome this to pass. I still love the water and swimming.

Hi Sheri I did know quite a bit of what you shared.  What I can't imagine is you being afraid of public speaking!  You're such a natural or you at the very least make it appear that way! And hey, there is nothing wrong with hanging out in comfortable jammies during the day in your home office! I do that some days!  I've always enjoyed Sedona and am grateful it's been our go-to place for many years.  You have highlighted it beautifully.   Quick question - was Rick able to get a picture of the blood moon last night?  If so, I bet it was spectacular up there!

Hi Sheri,
I know you and Rick have found your place. Who wouldn't love living in the beautiful surroundings of Sedona? You are right about the tourists, though. Last time I was there I learned never to go there when Spring Break, Nascar in Phoenix, and Spring Training baseball in Arizona are happening at the same time.

Maybe next time I'm in Phoenix, Anna and I can come up and see you or you can join us for a girl's Happy Hour.

Hi Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, Phoenix Broker - I think Rick was surprised at that answer also about public speaking. He has seen me speak and always thought I was a natural.  I guess I hide the jitters well. Haha!

This was the best Rick could do on the eclipse.

It was so dark when it was full - it disappeared.  He was shocked. He couldn't see it in the camera. When it started to come out of total eclipse there was a thin layer of clouds that took away from the sharpness of the photo. Partial Lunar Eclipse

LOL well guess you had both of us fooled Sheri!  Rick's photo turned out better than mine as I only had my phone.

Hi Brian England - When you are there, have you ever noticed a difference in the energy?  It is very calming near the entrance where the bench is located.  Rick and I visited the Virgin Mary's last home in Ephesus Turkey - It happened to be (by chance) August 15th. The Assumption.

There were bus loads of people yet the energy was similar to what is at the Chapel.  Very calming.  Here is a picture of the rebuilt 1 room home where the Virgin Mary lived. Here is a link to an article

Hi Carol Williams - That would be fabulous.  We just got through a very similar time that you described.  It was crazy.  Normally I look forward to Easter.  I was glad the week after it was over and there was less traffic.  I will admit that there have been many improvements for traffic related problems.
