Friday's Food For Thought: Our Mind Thinks In Picture

"You are in charge of your thoughts and therefore in charge of what it is that you manifest into your reality." -- Rhonda Byrne, Author of The Secret, a worldwide bestseller book in more than 50 languages with over 34 million copies in print.

"The Secret" was released in 2006 following the documentary film produced by the creator and Executive Producer, Rhonda Byrne. It is based on the belief in the pseudoscientific law of attraction, which claims thoughts and beliefs can change a person's life through the power of visualization.

Visualization was regarded as a "new age" hype for many years. Research has discovered that there is a strong scientific basis supporting the effectiveness of visualization and how and why it works.

Michael Phelps used the visualization technique to help him win an impressive 28 medals at the Olympics.

With his coach's help, Phelps would always follow the same routine before a major athletic event. This involved arriving early and thinking intensely about what was about to happen.

To manifest winning the event, Phelps would visualize what it would feel like to win and his precise actions. This allowed him to make winning a reality, precisely what he did!

"You are the one who calls the law of attraction into action, and you do it through your thoughts." Quote From The Secret

If you want something very badly, visualize it in your mind repeatedly, so you don't lose focus. Humans are very vision-oriented, so try and imagine a picture of your goal and go into as much detail as you want.

Your visualization process should be the first thing you think about when you wake up in the morning and the last thing in your mind when you fall asleep. Focus only on one goal or dream at a time so that you don't complicate the process and your mind doesn't get confused.

"Focus daily on manifesting the things you want in your life. Never stop believing." - Quote From The Secret.

Nothing beats the power of visualization when it comes to achieving your goals. Imagine what you want to accomplish, and then use your imagination to develop a clear vision for it. Incorporating your senses into the process can help you manifest your dreams into reality.

It's a common misconception that humans think in language, and in reality, thinking happens in pictures. A language is simply a tool we use to communicate our thoughts to others.

The vast majority of our thought processes happen outside of conscious awareness. Most of what we know is stored in our long-term memory, mainly visuals. When we want to access this information, we "retrieve" it from our memory by creating a mental image.

When you visualize, you create a roadmap for your subconscious mind to follow. This roadmap will help guide you to your desired destination.

"If you can think about what you want in your mind and make that your dominant thought, you will bring it into your life." Quote From The Secret

Happy Friday!

I echo your thought and experience of wishing to live in Boston. I am intrigued by your words, "I will work and live here." You didn't say, "I want to live here," you said, "I will....."

You inspired me to write about the (can't say yet) subject for my next  "Food For Thought" series. What is it? Well, stay tuned! Thank you for the inspiration!🧐

Hi, Sheri Sperry - MCNE®; thank you for sharing your experience in this subject.

As Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, Phoenix Broker shared her thoughts on why the subject is not new; I remember dreaming and visualizing coming to America. I have seen myself standing in front of the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, Statue of Liberty, etc. since I was nine years old. Growing up in America during the 70s, this subject was too "far out!" And it may still is for many who are unfamiliar with the concept.

I also saw the movie, The Secret, Dare To Dream by the same author of the book released after the film. It's fascinating!

Hi, Chris Ann Cleland; thank you for the feature and your thought on this subject of visualization.

We use it as part of our daily lives, but many do not recognize such power. Almost every time we read or learn about a winner in sports, businesses, and many others, we know why they have succeeded. And their success stories often referred to their mindset, goal setting, self-believing, determination, and visualization.

I am big on visualization and did not know it was a science.  I believe that if I can see it in my mind then I can get it done

Hi, Ed Silva

I like your confidence "if I can see it in my mind, then I can get it done." Not everyone is disciplined enough to focus and practice this visualization. Sounds like it's a second nature to you.

Agreed we hear words, but think in pictures. Clarity is essential.

Thank you for your read and comment, Leanne Smith. Clarity sometimes is difficult when our mind is so cluttered with other things. But, it's well worth the effort when clarity is there to validate our thought.

Clarity does come when one learns to focus on what one can control or influence. Too much time is spent on what one cannot control.

Wonderful post!  As a former athlete, I so get this.  Whether it was softball or tennis, I used to visualize where to place the ball and the rest of me reacted.  Kind of like the "fake it till you make it" belief.  If you practice and visualize the results you want, you'll achieve it.   Great thoughts in your post!

I know what you mean. When I first took tennis lessons, the instructor told me where the ball needed to be on my serve. With practice, I did it!!

Yep, "fake it till you make it" works!!!

Sometimes my husband tries to describe something with words and I just can't "see" it - so I tell him he needs to show me instead. I guess I think in pictures. As for visualization, I think that's a great tool!

I, too, learn and think better visually. If you ask me what's in my kitchen, I'll say there are five woks and two of them sitting on the stove, the rest in the cabinet on the far right among bags of Jasmine rice. Ha...I can see vividly what's in my kitchen, but not so much what's in the backyard.

Our minds are very powerful if we utilize them. Many people are caught in the trap of underestimating themselves which is sad.

I agree with you. Instead of fixating on the negative, let's direct our thoughts toward the incredible possibilities. Prepare to be amazed by the life-changing outcomes that can be achieved when we harness the true power of our minds.

Good morning Aura Alex ,

I'm so glad that Carol Williams featured your post in her Second Chance Saturday Series as i missed it. It's amazing how the mind can see pictures. I have always visualized things..I hear words but it is not the same. Clarity comes with the pictures I see in my mind.

Sometimes descriptive words encourage us to visualize images in our minds. It's a work in progress for me to practice creative writing to compel others to visualize in their minds.

I always used visualization when playing golf... I would see the line, or the shot, in my mind.  I can't imagine playing golf without it! Great post!  Kathy

Absolutely! The power of visualization is remarkable. Our minds have a fascinating way of processing information through images and creating a mental canvas of thoughts.
