On a flight today from Denver to Orlando, a woman gave birth to a baby.
Here's my question: On that baby's birth certificate. Does it show that s/he was born in Denver.... in Orlando... or in the state whose airspace they were in at the time of birth? Or is there some other option?
These are the sort of things that keep me awake at night.
Enquiring minds want to know.
Hi Alan- now that's something to ponder. I can see the question pop up down the road when the child is asked what state they were born in. Makes for good cocktail conversation.

I just did a quick online search for the answer and apparently it depends on who you are, where you are, what plane you're on, etc. My advice, stay on the ground till the baby is born!

I haven't flown all that much, and never (not even once) have I flown whilst pregnant. So it's really never come up...

Interesting question to ponder. What happens when a child is born on a flight or a ship crossing the ocean in International Waters? I might suspect it would be the ship line ownership.
ahh... an extension of the original question, but a good one. And let's make it even more interesting Leanne Smith, what if you're flying on an international carrier (let's say Emirates airlines, for example)... what then?
