For those who gave it all: We need to Remember and Honor the brave Soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice. We need to remember them not just on Memorial Day Weekend but every day!
As we head into the holiday weekend, we need to reflect about the true meaning of Memorial Day. It is about honoring and remembering the many men and women who have given their lives in the service of our country. They died to ensure our freedom. Let’s never forget their selfless service and their ultimate sacrifice.
I have discovered over the years that many people do not know the history of this Day. In case you did not know, Memorial Day is always the last Monday in May; hence it should be easy to remember.
Do you know what Memorial Day was called before? If you said it was called Decoration Day, you are right. Why was it called that? (Now that is a post for another day).
Many people think Memorial Day came about after World War I or II, the reality is that it came after the Civil War. If you look at the history via the Internet you will discover that Memorial Day, originated during the Civil War when citizens place flowers on the grave of those who had been killed in battle.
Do you know what flower is associated with Memorial Day? If you said Red Poppies, you were right.
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, peaceful and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend.
