Choosing San Antonio to Start a Business

By
Real Estate Agent with Brown Realty, 210-789-4216, TREC #0492321

Cost of Living in the San Antonio Area

The overall cost of living in the City of San Antonio is lower than the national average. Fortunately, that means there are many areas that are affordable. Bexar County, where San Antonio resides, while still higher than the state average, has a lower cost of living compared to the city, and may be a better place to live and start a business.

Should you choose to live in the Greater San Antonio area, it’s important to choose a local realtor you can trust. Jerry Newman of Brown Realty is an experienced, licensed real estate professional capable of assisting you in your search for a new home in the area.

Higher Education

Having an educated workforce is a boon to any company. When starting up your business, it may be difficult to source candidates from across the country, therefore having access to quality candidates from good schools nearby can make a big difference. San Antonio is centrally located near numerous colleges, trade schools, and universities.  Schools in the area include:

  • Trinity University
  • St. Mary’s University
  • University of the Incarnate Word
  • University of Texas - San Antonio
  • Texas Lutheran University

Importance of a Strong Business Community

A strong business community helps entrepreneurs learn from one another and discover what makes existing businesses in the area successful. Joining a business association also provides networking opportunities, provides personal and social advantages, and provides access to educational opportunities and materials. Local business associations and organizations include:

Getting Started

Creating a checklist can make it easier to get started with a new business in San Antonio. Start by creating a business plan that lays out a blueprint for your business over the next three to five years. Also, be sure to determine the legal structure and formation. A corporation offers important legal and tax advantages, including protecting your personal assets, easier access to capital, and enhancing your business credibility. You’ll want to apply for your EIN number, register for taxes, apply for local business licenses and permits, and open a business account.

Next, you should consider the marketing place for your new business. If you don’t have a logo, you can create a logo using a logo design maker online and save money. For additional help on developing your company presence, connect with a freelancer designer or work with a marketing agency for a la carte website design, graphic design, SEO, and website hosting. Establishing an identifiable brand is critical to success.

The Greater San Antonio area can be the perfect place to set up shop for your new business. With so many resources available, you can start out on the right foot and settle into this bustling, vibrant community.

Hi Jerry.... long time no see here in the Rain! Trust all is well at your end. I haven't been in San Antonio since the 1970's, but when I was there I loved what I saw.

Hi Jerry Newman - This is an excellent post for people living in San Antonio as well as those considering moving to San Antonio. By the way, I represented an active Vet a few months back. The day after closing I tried to reach them and found out when they got back home, they decided to take a trip to San Antonio to meet up with other Military friends and had a really great time. They said the friends they make from the Military are the most trusted ones of all and they really felt welcomed in San Antonio.

Hi Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP I am not surprised at your military family's actions and response about connecting with other veterans. San Antonio will always be a military town. There is a special bond that only military families can relate too. Have a Blessed Week!
