The Fed's Holding $2.7 Trillion Mortgage Backed Securities

By
Industry Observer CDRE #01044712

On May 18, 2022, Axios.com reported that the  Fed’s holding $2,7 trillion mortgage backed securities for the long term.

Thomas Barkin, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, tells Axios "Let's get the program we've got underway and up to speed, but then once we've got it underway, I think it'll be worth taking a look at what is happening to the mortgage-backed [securities] on our balance sheet,"

It appears that the Fed’s holding $2,7 trillion mortgage backed securities can be a problem for the long term.

After seeing the inflation numbers this morning, it does look like the Fed has backed themselves into a corner of their own making.

John, great information to share, and wonder if the amount of mortgages held are decreasing with some paying them off.

When the government overreaches its authority in its effort to control what it can't control, the usual outcome for We the People is not positive.  Very troubling given current inflation numbers.
