Ole Glory Coast to Coast-June ActiveRain Challenge…Celebrating Flag Day

If you’ve noticed the many posts this month with our beautiful flag flying proudly it is because of the Ole Glory Coast to Coast-June ActiveRain Challenge hosted by Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint-Idaho, and Endre Barath, Jr.

As it happens, today, June 14 is Flag Day. President Woodrow Wilson established this day back in 1916…100 years after the Second Continental Congress while writing the Articles of Confederation, passed a resolution outlining how the Flag of this new union would look. In Jeff Dowler’s June Challenge post, he mentioned that as a result of the challenge, he’s been noticing Ole Glory even more. He is absolutely correct. And, Mark Don McInnes has shared his Sandpoint Realty ‘Friday Flag’ for I’m not sure how long. 

I still get goosebumps when I see Old Glory at the beginning of a parade or sporting event, at the  Olympic podium when the US has won a medal…or just driving down the street and seeing people and businesses proudly flying the flag.

I started wandering down my Google Photos rabbit hole this weekend searching for flag photos and had to stop when I realized that I must have been preparing myself for this challenge for years and years. 

I remember after September 11, 2001, we came together as a nation…as neighbors…and displayed our flags on our homes and businesses. We wore flag pins and there were flags everywhere.

While the flag isn’t an entity that keeps us safe or provides food on our tables, it symbolizes who we are and how we came together. It says we are…

one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Personally…I think it’s time to get back to that.
