An historic home is for sale in Whitehall Township in the Lehigh Valley.  The property includes a 6 bedroom farmhouse, where a section of it was built in 1817.  It also has a large barn, built the same year, and a springhouse, which was constructed in 1760.  All of this is located on 4.5 acres.  The listing price is $795,000.

The property also houses several other buildings from the Colonial times, an underground spring, a few ponds and a limestone cave extending 300 feet under ground.

Indians used to winter in the area, using the caves for shelter and springs for water.

The current owner has lived ther for 63 years.  His father had purchased 300 acres, which also included the current property.  Over the years, pieces of the property were sold off, part of which is now the Lehigh Valley Mall.

The property is zoned very low density, residential.  This zoning requires a lot size of at least 1 acre.

The property contains upgrades, which reflect the history, to maintain it's historic look.  An early 19th centruy table with dishes can be found, along with a large spinning wheel and 18th century oil lamps hanging from the wall.  In addition, there is also a scale from 1793, and an early 19th century ax hung on another wall.

The property contains so much history, that the current owners want to sell it to someone who will keep it that way.  The sellers will not sell to anyone considering to change the home's heritage.  An offer had been made to them, but was turned down because the buyer wanted to subdivide the lot.

It truly would be a shame to lose more history the area has to offer to more development.

Unfortunately I did not get the listing.  There was an article about it in the Morning Call and was also televised on the local news.  Since I specialize in rural and horse properties, I thought it to be interesting.
