Chicago's sales tax jumps Tuesday to 10.25 percent. This was due to Cook County's 1 percent tax increase. At this tax rate, its one of the highest tax rates in the country, even higher than New York and Los Angeles. The other counties that are lower are: 7 percent in Lake and Will counties, and 7.25 percent in DuPage County. I wonder if this will discourage people from moving to Chicago... hum.

Hi Greg! Yep, that Cook County tax rate is pretty high. Is that in addition to state sales taxes? Does IL also have a state income tax?

It is a tax that hurts the poor most.  Some elected heads need roll in Cook County.

As I get older, I'm really not sure if i'm going to retire here in Cook county.  I may be forced out by the tax rates as I get older.

That tax rate is way too high.  I hope the servcies are great there.
