Speechless Sundays - Tiny Blessings Make Our Lives SO Much More Special
Okay, maybe not so speechless!
We lost our sweet Duke in May of this year and have been feeling like our hearts have been broken in a million pieces. To make the pain even deeper, we have been watching our other senior dog, Barney, age by the day. We think he was depressed because he lost his best friend and agonized over adopting another dog…or not.
We decided to search locally for a small, more docile dog that Barney would enjoy ‘showing the ropes’ to as he did when we adopted Duke. Both of those boys were the same age (4) when we adopted Duke but, Barney became a different dog, enjoying having a companion - after all, he was the alpha male!
So, at the recommendation of one of my clients, we visited a foster family in Lancaster (about 1.5 hours from us) and found the perfect Barney companion! She’s tiny so, she can’t ‘hurt’ our senior poochie and she’s fairly docile for a puppy.
Meet Madelaine Mae Maxwell, the cutest, tiny bundle of fur on the planet! Maddy is playful but, not over-bearing; she’s super sweet, even to the kitties and she’s the perfect size to snuggle up with Barney.
Barney has been showing her how much fun living in the Maxwell House can be - and it seems to have revived him a bit, just as we had hoped. Maddie is loving hanging out with Barney but, also loves jumping on top of him when he’s resting. We’re trying to control the jumping a bit but, Barney doesn’t seem to be bothered at all by her.
The funniest thing is that Jack (one of our younger kitties), is enthralled by Maddy and greets her at the door every time she comes in from going to potty (which is pretty often with a tiny dog - tiny dog = tiny bladder)! Jack greets her at the door and allows her to chase him up the nearest scratching tree in the family room. It is hysterical, watching those two!
Ray and I have had perma-grins for two full days! This little bundle of fur has truly lightened our hearts.
