CHANGING PRIORITIES AND MAKING MY SON SMILE...

By

As a parent, we are always running all over trying to get everything done.  There are times that we put work (being a realtor) first over family.  Afterall, you need to work when it is available.  Well, I learned a very valuable lesson this past weekend.  I took Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning off to spend time with my son Jakob (who just got over phenomia).

I took him on a camp out with other bear scouts.  There were four scouts in total (and four parents), and we all went hiking, fishing, swimming, a kayating, making some mors, etc.

valerie osterhoudt Jakob is in the yellow vest.

Jakob at one point said to me that he was glad I was finally spending time with him.  My heart sank, I didn't realize how much work had been coming first.  I'm now going to try to make a point of spending more time with him and my other son Kyle.  The reason why I work so much is for them.. but maybe it should be the other way around.

Many of think if we do not jump when the client says so, that we will loose the cleint.  Iwas talking to a realtor not too long ago.  She was the wife of my husbands supplier.  She brought her cel phone to dinner and laid it on the table while we were eating.  I thought this was very rude and the dinner was about her husband and his cleints........as I am sure he would show the same respect if the table was turned.  We went out side to talk and she mentioned how he business has taken over her life and her marriage was struggling.  hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Very good post.  We really need to keep our priorities right.  I need to evaluate myself periodically.  Thanks for the encouragement!  :)

Michelle... Seeing my son smile, and having a GREAT time is what life is all about.. I just needed to be reminded to slow down.

Not only did I NOT bring my cell phone... there wasn't any service.  I think I was given a message to relax and enjoy.

Debi.. If my son Jakob saying "I'm glad I'm finally spending time with you mom", wasn't a wake up call, I don't know what would be.  I have to say, I also enjoyed his time.. would you believe I hooked a LIVE worm on the fishing hook for him?  It is amazing what a mom will do for their children.

Once again Debi, thanks for asking about his pneumonia.. as you can see he is doing ALOT better.

I think you chose the right thing to do this weekend...  :)  He looks like a very happy and healthy boy.  I hope you have many more days like these!  :)

Debi.. So do I.  Jakob definitely made me aware of my shortcomings.  As a matter of fact, I took him to the pool today and had a great time, talking with him.  He even wanted to hold my hand.  Hmmm.  Being 9, I know this won't be happening much longer.  Wouldn't be a shame if I didn't take advantage of it now... because it will NEVER come back again.

Valerie it is very important to set our priorities straight especially while our kids are younger.  The times you spend with them will be what you will value most when they are gone and starting their own family.

George.. I am SO glad I spent time with Jakob last weekend.  At this point, I don't know who enjoyed it more.

Can you picture me hiking, and kayaking... with the knee and shoulder surgeries I had.  Yes, I went all out... my son is only young once.
