Wordless Wednesday…That’s a Lot of Air
Wordless Wednesday…That’s a Lot of Air
Humor me…today is Bagpipe Appreciation Day and I love bagpipes.
The bagpipe can play only 9 notes…no sharps or flats.
Bagpipes were originally used to scare off enemies on the battlefield. (I know what you’re thinking…you’d run too!)
The most played song on the bagpipes is Scotland the Brave.
The bagpipe has been banned in Scotland twice because of its connection with war.
And my favorite…
It is said that Queen Elizabeth is awakened every morning by a piper outside her window.
This is one of my favorite bagpipe moments in Delray Beach when we were treated to this gentleman welcoming the sunrise. (He said he had to practice there because his fellow condo dwellers did not appreciate his music.)
I have heard the Aggie War Hymn played on bagpipes and do not miss an opportunity to see pipers in person.
