Personal Time:  Our business can be a huge mental drain. Make sure you have something outside of work to shut work off and have it on your schedule as an appointment. If you do not, you will burn out. For me #1 is sailing and a close second is wood working. “Me Time” is important for your mental health. I could write volumes about this topic… simply put: Find something for YOU and make time for it.

FED: The Federal reserve announced at 2pm yesterday a 75 basis point increase in Fed Funds (as anticipated) and they also confirmed they will continue to reduce their balance sheet and “ongoing rate hikes are appropriate”. Post meeting comments from Chairman Powell were also favorable as he stated the Fed may slow the pace of rate hikes in subsequent meetings, yet hinted at another 75bps at the next meeting.

On the surface this may seem like bad news, but in reality, it is seen as the Fed working to control inflation.  All markets are positive on the news with Mortgage-backed securities improving and even stocks happy with the news.  This was priced into the markets already and long-term rates are very forward looking and see the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel with the hopes that inflation will soon be under control.

Housing: Mortgage applications for Purchases were down 0.8% for the week, and down 18% in the past 12 months while Pending Home Sales decreased by 8.6% in June which was lower than the 1.5% decrease forecasted.

WINE TIP: How about a Cab Franc? This is a grape typically used for blending but can be fun on its own and will vary greatly based on where it is grown. In the Finger Lakes it can be a very light approachable red, but still have enough character to keep it interesting, while in Bordeaux or California it will be a much fuller wine but not as “big” as its offspring Cabernet Sauvignon.

I’d be happy to put my 30+ years of experience to work for you
