Nerdin Gardens: Oh look, he's S-M-I-L-I-N-G!
Reminiscing today about our Pot-bellied Pigs...Sometimes I wish that everything in the world was perfect like nature. Piglets quickly transform into walking, snorting, squealing little creatures. On their first day, they:
- Opened their eyes
- Were able to walk
- Jumped into the water dish to cool themselves
- Snuggled with siblings for comfort & a nap
-
Knew exactly where their food was...Momma!
This little guy in the picture was ok with me holding him for a short bit, then started squealing for momma so I put him down. Miss Prissy was a wonderful momma to her babies and Bacon (dad) maintained his distance with a few grunts! At night, the babies slept between Bacon and Miss Prissy.
We soon realized that we had prevent another set of newborns, so contacted our favorite Veterinarian, one of few that does preventative surgery on pigs. Six of the piglets were handed over to the local 4-H program to be adopted out, the other one was given to Todd Clark, an AR member.
Though our lives were busy (still are), we gave Bacon and Miss Prissy the love and attention they deserved. They spent over 9 years with us and were wonderful pets. We still miss them here in Nerdin Gardens.
S-M-I-L-E-S everyone, I just HAD to share this with you!
