When you build a golf cart community you need to connect all of the community. This task gets more interesting when your community is 130,000 residents and covers over 51 square miles. The Villages, Florida has a plan and it’s working! The Villages wasn’t going to allow the Florida Turnpike or state highways to get in the way of expanding the sprawling community so build bridges and tunnels for golf carts!
It all started in 1993 when The Villages built the first town square Spanish Springs and needed away to connect the residents on the east side of US 441 to the square. The first iconic bridge was built and The Villages decided wherever they expand they need to connect. The next connection was connecting The Spanish Springs area to the Lake Sumter Landing area, two tunnels go beneath County Road 466.
Today three of the four planned bridges in the south end of The Villages are completed, two over State Route 44 and one over the Florida Turnpike with the second one over the turnpike due to be complete in 2023.
It’s estimated more than 60,000 golf carts are in The Villages, connecting the entire community is an important task for residents, businesses, shopping, dining and of course golf! Want to know more about The Villages, Florida? Call, text or email me!
