One of the best and easiest ways a real estate agent can start grabbing eyeballs with your blog is to blog about the individual neighborhoods contained within each city wherein you specialize. There are whole web sites devoted to this type of marketing (yelp, city search) yet these sites can fall short in capturing the in depth knowledge and history of the neighborhoods that a local real estate agent can.
This is where your 'thought leadership' can shine. You know the distance to the local grocer. You know what local restaurants are good and when the farmer's market runs. You know about the wild turkeys who visit local homeowners. Blog about these things and get pictures or video. Keep them short and to the point. Also, make them more usable for your viewers by hyperlinking to any relevant web sites available.

Choose words that reflect your local knowledge. Your chances of rising in the search rankings are greater when viewers use those search terms. And it's easier to rankrise on less popular but more relevant keywords.
