Friday Fun…Everyone’s Old But Us

Many years ago, Stan, a friend of Larry’s mother brought one of those talking fishes to her retirement home party. He laughed and said that all of the OLD people at the home got a big kick out of it.

The funny thing is…Stan himself was about 95 years “young.”

I told Larry that should I be shot, in an accident, or some other tragedies befall me, I do not want to be described as “the elderly woman…”

That said, I still find myself referring to others as older people or elderly, when I may be their age or even older.

Who me??? Old???

Age is not what’s written on our birth certificates but what’s in our minds,  spirit, and attitudes.  So until such time as I declare myself old I’m going with this... everyone is old but me!!

The secret of genius is to carry the spirit of the child into old age, which means never losing your enthusiasm. Aldous Huxley

Let us never know what old age is. Let us know the happiness time brings, not count the years. Ausonius

Good morning Kathy, some good quotes.  Yes I too look around and notice how much older some people are looking and wondering why when I have changed so little in the last few decades.  LMAO  Oh the pain of it all.  lol  Mark

You cannot be old as long as you know someone older, and as my mom will be 100 this month, I have a way to go

Kathy I had a friend that up until her mid 80's she worked in a nursing home, because as she put it she "had to help the old people".

Hi Kathy,

I would tell the story of my father, who didn't want to go to a Senior Community. He told me he didn't want to live with all those old people!  He was 75 at the time!  Of course, your 95-year-old gentleman tops that one. haha

HI Brian England I'll take that and run with it!!!!   Everyone should have young people in their lives to help keep them young.

Wayne Martin I'm sorry for the loss of your uncle!  But yes...adopt this attitude!! My friend's mother is 103 and not stopping!

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 isn't that something. It's all in the mind, isn't it?!

Joan Cox I agree. I've had friends who started acting old as soon as they married.

Pat Champion happy to give you a chuckle! LOL  I hate it when the news feel compelled to give out ages or call anyone over 65 elderly.

Will Hamm I'm glad you've learned your lesson. Stay young at heart always!!!!

Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint-Idaho you're not kidding...the pain of it all is right. I feel young but then I realize that at 72, there's more behind me than ahead. That gets scary.

Ed Silva pre-happy 100th birthday to your mother.  That was easier to do when we lived in South Florida...everywhere we looked...old people LOL

George Souto Oh my...that IS funny!!! But it kept her young!!!

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® I couldn't get over how young he was. He'd had a stroke but you would never have known it. He still played golf and drove himself.

Age is only a number ... and you are only as old as you feel.  Be positive and always learning and you will never grow old!

Had a listing with a lady 92 who was my Honor English teacher. She and her husband, my Trig teacher made a decision early on in life. Asking each other, do you want to save save for old age retirement or loosen up and have a little fun along the way traveling? Let's travel. He died before retirement. She had "fun along the way" and regrets nothing. She told me she does not feel old even though most of her age friends are gone. She still has lots of friends and said she kept living fully rather than worrying about am I old or when am I going to die. The secret is were you aware life ticks by quickly early in life so you were aware of how precious every moment, every stage is? If you made the positive decision to live it fully along the way, there is no rearview mirror regrets or whining about woulda, shoulda, coulda Kathy Streib .

HaHa...."the elderly woman". I hate when I see that.

I've been calling myself old for many years now. It is different when you do it to yourself.
