A new pizza restaurant, to me anyway!

I was watching Chef's Table - Pizza the other night and thought it was time to try our local pizza restaurant. Aurora Pizza and pasta in Jennersville Village. Watching the program made the bar high as the pizzas on the show looked incredible. I never knew the best pizza in the US was served in Phoenix AZ. So, whilst not expecting the best pizza, i had hopes it would be tasty.

I found the website for the restaurant and was able to order online. I selected the Special Pizza, sausage, pepperoni, onions, olives, mushrooms and other vegetables just to balance it out and make it somewhat healthy. The website told me I could collect it at 7.00 pm and as the shop was only a few minutes drive I relaxed and got in the mood watching the show about pizzas.

Who knew that there was so much that goes into makeing the perfect pizza.

I went and collected my pizza and drove home, opening the box I was not disappointed by the look at all. I could tell the box was a little damp that the crust was not holding up to the vegetables which had been placed more in the middle.

Pizza Special

Taste was good, it could have been cooked a little longer, but overall I gave it four out of five stars. As I said the crust was a little soft in the center from the vegetables. Will definitely try other pizzas, and my test for pizza quality included eating it cold the next day as well. It passed that test with a good flavour.

They also offer eat in, and the restaurant looked very nice. I did try a bottle of Portuguese style wine made in California which went with it perfectly, a mix of tempernillo and tortuga grapes I believe which I get from Nakedwines.com.

I do think if I had not been watching the program, my expectations might have been a little lower, but I also think it was the power of suggestion as to why I ended up eating pizza when the plan had been to have a salad.

We also have a local corner cafe, which I have yet to explore for breakfast one morning or lunch. So much to discover.

Oh and just for Nina Hollander, Broker here is a picture of Sylvester when he was in a good mood but looking mischevous.

I really enjoy watching, The Chef's Table, but I think I have fallen behind on the episodes and have not seen the pizza show.  I would love to know the name of the one in Phoenix.  We are spending a week in Goodyear shortly and we move there permanently shortly thereafter.

It sounds like you have found a new place to enjoy pizza, always a happy occasion.  Hope you are doing well!

Good morning, Nick... always fun to discover new places especially for things like pizza. This one looked quite taste... even to me, who eats nothing on hers except extra cheese!

Hello Nick - the best pizza may be far too controversial a subject to discuss in a public forum where emotions can run high.  That said, finding an ideal neighborhood dining destination can be delightful.   Such moments of discovery are important even though are feelings may adjust with the next culinary adventure.

Hello Nick, I am picky of the crust on a pizza and if it is to soft tells me under cook but the place was busy and serve fast.

You know what? Maybe there is room for a restaurant called , "Nick's Pizza"! We could have meetups there. What do you say?  Feel like "adding to your plate"?

Ray Henson it is owned by Chris Bianco, lots of people proclaim his pizzas are the best. Well he is originally from New York. He used to make them all himself, actually being in front of the oven, but he is older and wiser now.

Nina Hollander, Broker  a Margherita is delicious if done well, but just cheese is good too.

Joan Cox I am sure you will have pizza on the brain now till you satisfy that craving.

Michael Jacobs not my ruling, but food commentators and writers proclaim the best of. The owner said people were lining up outside the restairant at 10 in the morning and he didn't open till 5 pm.

Hi Nick - I've never seen the Chef's Table but will look for it. I like Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and The Kitchen!!  And yes, I've had some good pizzas that were soggy in the center but it can be corrected in the oven, I suppose.

If you ever find yourself in NYC- I recommend John's of Bleecker St.  It's one of the highest rated pizza places in the nation consistently- and pizza family royalty as John Sasso, started John's after working at Lombardi's- the oldest Pizza restaurant in the U.S.  Both John's and Lombardi's use coal fired ovens- and NYC won't let new coal ovens be built in the city. The last few times I went to Lombardi's it felt too touristy with not enough cheese (even when I came back the next time and specifically ordered extra cheese- it barely qualified as a cheese pizza).  Along the few block stretch of Bleecker St (or within a half block) - is also Joe's pizza- famous for their slices and Bleecker St Pizza. Joe's is always highly ranked with reviewers- and while it's a great slice- it's not the best I ever had...but it is consistently solid. My office is a block from Joe's midtown location- and I have the same comments.  Bleecker St Pizza which is only a half block from John's always makes the best pizza lists...but I feel it's ok, but nothing special- especially considering that John's and Joe's are so close by. Keste also scores high on the best pizza lists and it used to be located across the street from John's- but they have since moved down to the Financial District.  Also worth noting, the other best Pizza places in the nation include New Haven, CT- and Frank Pepe's, Sally's, and Modern Apizza all use coal ovens.

It's worth noting that while these are all highly reviewed in huge numbers of people, I might be a bit biased as I attended NYU- and Joe's and John's were just a few blocks from my classrooms.

Kathy Streib it is a good program and now there are several spin offs, all good and entertaining.

Kat Palmiotti it wasn't soggy, just softer than the rest due to the veggies I am sure. It tasted good.

Brian England it got points for looks defiintely.

Adam Feinberg that many pizza places close by would be a definite problem for me. A lot of places use a wood fired oven, and that seems to be the ones this program was ranking highly.
