Disposal of Household Hazardous Waste

Residential households with large quantities of any type of HHW must call the City's Refuse Division for disposal instructions.

Residential households with small quantities of any type of HHW have different disposal options. Depending on the type of material needed to be disposed, residents can flush it down the drain, absorb the fluids and trash, directly trash or schedule a drop-off in one of the City's HHW drop-off events. But before you dispose make sure to visit the household hazardous waste page.

Materials which present serious health and safety hazards, including pesticides and highly flammable substances like gasoline and kerosene, require special handling. Please schedule an appointment if you need to dispose of the following materials:

Acetone, Antifreeze, Arsenic, Boric Acid, Chlordane, Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs)-large quantities, Diesel Fluid, DDT, Diazinon, Dieldrin, Fertilizers, Fluorescent Tubes-large quantities, Formaldehyde, Gasoline, Herbicides, Hydrochloric Acid, Insecticides, Kerosene, Lead, Lighter Fluid, Malathion, Mercury, Muriatic Acid, Oven Cleaner, Paint Stripper, Paint-Aluminum, Paint-Lead, Paint Thinner, Paraquat, Pentachlorophenol, Paris Green, Photographic Chemicals, Rust Remover, Solvents, Turpentine, Varathane, Wood Preservatives.

Aloha Laura Cerrano, some people dump indiscriminately, some out of ignorance others deliberately. Most people are just not aware that there are services to help dispose of these products properly. Thanks for your comment!
