In Boston for a Fall Mastermind with KW - Are You Here Too?

By

In case anyone is in Bostton for the KW Fall Mastermind that starts this evening, please let me know.  I would love to connect with you!

It took me two days to get here from Bethesda/DC.  First we drove to New York City to see our son and his two boys.  My husband played chess with our 7 year old grandson, Hamilton, and taught him the Sicilian Gambit.   Hamilton called it the Italian gambit and Bill had to explain to him that not all Italians are Sicilian - although Hamilton is 1/4 Sicilian!  Hamilton's school taught them to play chess last year in kindergarten so Bill is really having fun playing chess with him.  My husband then taught Ames, the not yet four year old, the names of the chess pieces so that he can start learning to play too!

From New York we went to Concord MA to see a Marine Corps buddy of my husband's, whom he hadn't seen in over sixty years.  They both are using canes now, but they were filled with stories of Vespas in Rome and dinners in Athens.  That was great fun for my husband, and wonderful for me to hear some of those crazy stories validated.  This morning after a lovely breakfast at the Colonial Inn in Concord (established in 1716) we were heading back to Boston when I saw a sign for Walden Pond.  I have never been to Walden Pond, and this seemed as good a time as any!   Walden Pond is very pretty - but it didn't make me feel poetic or philosophical!  Everyone reading this is safe!

From Walden Pond we headed into Chestnut Hill to make sure that Boston College is still standing and thriving.  Spoiler Alert!  It is doing just fine. My husband went to Boston College after the Marine Corps so every time we are in Boston we have to check the campus to see what new buildings have sprouted up and what Chestnut Hill looks like.  Lots of new buildings - and Chestnut Hill and Newton are charming towns.

We also went through Jamaica Plain to see where our daughter is moving to in a week.  Another great little area with lots of shops and restaurants and perfect for her and her fiance!

Finally we checked into the hotel and now I am getting ready to walk over to the KW Fall Mastermind.  If any of you in the Rain are in Boston for this KW event, please let me know- I would love to catch up!  Have a wonderful week - and sell some houses!

Hello Lise - Boston has been on my bucket list destination since I was in fourth grade but I have yet to make it there.  I have a NYC friend who reminds me of this often and given that I lived in DC for a few years, I really have no excuse.  Not a good one - at least.  Learn much.  Have fun.

Lise Howe - I was charmed by reading your two day adventure to get to the KW Fall Mastermind. May you be drenched in wisdom with many good ideas to return back home to the DC area. Your pictures are historical with so much to remember about America's past. I want to pause for a second to wish your daughter a very successful move to the Jamaica Plain and to wish you positive nerves of steel as she grows into an educated young woman away from home with her fiance. I pray her fiance is good to your lovely daughter and that she remains in excellent good health.

Putting you own family values before the KW's family model speaks volumes about the type of wonderful woman you are. Your trip to get to your destination was so important. Vicariously, I was there, clinging to your words and gorgeous photographs. Truth speaking, learning, and teaching new skills to your grandchildren  while giving everyone the time they deserve, is so beneficial.

I really wish all the very best to you and your family. As for learning Chess at such an early age had me motivated. Your husband sounds as wonderful as you are and your children and their children will be blessed.

Boston is definitely a place that I would like to visit sooner rather than later but don't currently have any solid plans to do so.

Sadly, I'm not in Boston this week, Lise. It's been years since I was there. I will, however, be in Phoenix, in about three weeks for the Coldwell Banker annual GenBlue Conference and looking forward to a meetup with a bunch of Rainers. Meantime, wishing you a wonderful mastermind.

Hi Lise:

Sounds like a fun trip combined with some business. Hope the Mastermind went well!

Your description and photos make me want to visit again - have only been back a few times after relocating in 2005. Wish I was there - would be fun to meet up!

Jeff
