In case anyone is in Bostton for the KW Fall Mastermind that starts this evening, please let me know. I would love to connect with you!
It took me two days to get here from Bethesda/DC. First we drove to New York City to see our son and his two boys. My husband played chess with our 7 year old grandson, Hamilton, and taught him the Sicilian Gambit. Hamilton called it the Italian gambit and Bill had to explain to him that not all Italians are Sicilian - although Hamilton is 1/4 Sicilian! Hamilton's school taught them to play chess last year in kindergarten so Bill is really having fun playing chess with him. My husband then taught Ames, the not yet four year old, the names of the chess pieces so that he can start learning to play too!
From New York we went to Concord MA to see a Marine Corps buddy of my husband's, whom he hadn't seen in over sixty years. They both are using canes now, but they were filled with stories of Vespas in Rome and dinners in Athens. That was great fun for my husband, and wonderful for me to hear some of those crazy stories validated. This morning after a lovely breakfast at the Colonial Inn in Concord (established in 1716) we were heading back to Boston when I saw a sign for Walden Pond. I have never been to Walden Pond, and this seemed as good a time as any! Walden Pond is very pretty - but it didn't make me feel poetic or philosophical! Everyone reading this is safe!
From Walden Pond we headed into Chestnut Hill to make sure that Boston College is still standing and thriving. Spoiler Alert! It is doing just fine. My husband went to Boston College after the Marine Corps so every time we are in Boston we have to check the campus to see what new buildings have sprouted up and what Chestnut Hill looks like. Lots of new buildings - and Chestnut Hill and Newton are charming towns.
We also went through Jamaica Plain to see where our daughter is moving to in a week. Another great little area with lots of shops and restaurants and perfect for her and her fiance!
Finally we checked into the hotel and now I am getting ready to walk over to the KW Fall Mastermind. If any of you in the Rain are in Boston for this KW event, please let me know- I would love to catch up! Have a wonderful week - and sell some houses!
