Yes, it is October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, when all the sports teams suddenly wear pink, pink cleats, hats etc. I am sure we have all known someone who has suffered from Breast Cancer. I lost my sister to Breast Cancer which had metastasized to Brain Cancer several years ago. So, I know the pain and the suffering this disease brings. I also know the generosity of this group and am sure you have all made donations over time to various different charities fighting cancer and breast cancer.
Early detection is a boon to overcoming Breast Cancer, so go and get a mammogram, check yourself for lumps what ever it takes keep yourself healthy.
But, what many people do not realize is how closely related Prostate Cancer is to Breast Cancer. It is the same gene. So gentlemen, I would encourage you also to stay healthy. prostate cancer is one of those cancers that is quiet. It can also be detected, with a PSA test, and a physical exam. Yes, I know, none of us like that particular exam, but it is important for your health. So ask your Doctor if you are not already having PSA blood tests, get one now, to establish a baseline. It is how I discovered I had Prostate Cancer. And it was having blood tests that also helped identify its return.
There are many options for treatment, from watch and wait for slow moving cancers, to removal of the prostate for fast moving cancers and everything in between with chemo and radiation with hormone treatment as options. It is not macho to ignore, but sensible to take care of your health.
So ladies and gentlemen, look after yourselves and get checked this month.
