New Listing in Old Kensington - 1238 N Mascher St  - View Slideshow - Philadelphia Real Estate

Sometimes I think how listings are procured by agents.  There are so many different strategies in terms of marketing to new clients.  Also I am amazed with all the agents that are out there, how did it come to be that it is myself or my wife that becomes the agent for a particular seller ?   There is such a large pie out there of business - we like to say we just want a piece of it.  There is certainly plenty of business to go around.

In any event, a few days ago, we picked up a nice new listing in Old Kensington that came from an interesting referral source.

My wife and I, who rarely go out because we work too much, were convinced by our broker to go to the anniverary dinner for the Greater Philadelphia Association of Realtors.  Sometimes I have a little anxiety in large crowds - I joke that I have social anxiety disorder or something to that affect.  It is a paradox that I am in such a people oriented business  but I can be very shy and anxious in large crowds.  Im certainly not that extroverted type person who thrives at a party but more keep to myself, quiet and introverted.

At our table were two other Philadelphia realtors who are marketing exclusively a large waterfront property - Dockside on the river.  We had a very nice chat with them and it turned out to be a wonderful dinner and event.  From that party, our broker held one of our office meetings at their waterfront property.  This office meeting was not mandatory but we decided we needed a little break and went anyway to check out the views which were beautiful.  We met and talked with the 2 realtors again.

A week later one of those agents called us with a referral who needed to sell a property.  Once we met with the referral, they were very appreciative to know not only were they referred by someone they know, but also their house was in a neighborhood that we specialize in.

Looking back, if my "social anxiety disorder" would have got the best of me, we would have never gone to the party nor the office meeting and thus, there certainly would never have been any referral or a new listing !

Thinking about it, there is a story for every new client we receive, and typically they are all good !

Networking does work.

What were the odds ?

Apparently pretty good!!  Congratulations on the referral.  Those dinners can be amazing things.  I remember years ago going to a dinner like that.  A few weeks my husband landed a major client because of the dinner conversation that evening - not bad!

Nothing is more rewarding than a personal referral- I have agents who live in Baltimore City who don't like to travel out to the burbs, so they call me with their Referrals
