Vacations Reveal Gentle Spirits

By

Sea BreezeThis time of year many of our clients in real estate are visiting the ocean and taking some time off for vacation.

In addition to showing me photographs of a trip, I like listening to the stories surrounding the sun, the sand, and the waves.

In particular what comes up is the breeze. Without trees and buildings to slow the wind down often there is a steady breeze at the ocean front. A word I have always liked in the breeze category is zephyr. It is a gentle breeze. Listening to the vacationers they seem to all pay attention to this zephyr and it makes them feel good.

Child and BirdSo too in life, there are many zephyrs we can experience if we slow down and just feel them. They are the gentle spirits around us. They are the quiet moments. I have noticed so often that the quiet people, sometimes those off on the sidelines who are not boisterous, who are not waving their hands all around, who are not trying to draw attention to themselves, these people can be the most profound. They can be your greatest discovery.

Zephyrs just blow at a light level and never overpower you. They can almost be taken for granted. Gentle spirits need to be tuned into because they won't be as obvious as someone very loud in a room.

Like many of the great things we encounter in life we find them if we raise our level of awareness to them.

Children and Sand

So keep your eyes open this summer for the gentle spirits that are always around you. Seek out the quiet moments that are telling you something and revealing a little piece of the glory of life.

The gentle sea breeze is blowing on you Do you feel it?

Has your vacation time allowed you to think about your life and what is important to you?

Elizabeth: At least put the vacation on the calendar for December when things calm down. But do take it. Cabo would be a good vacation for any of us.

Dan: Gentleness is truly a gift.

Debe: Stay calm, feel the breeze.

Marey: Sorry to hear about the storms, the flooded basement and the shop vac work. Take a deep breath and remember, tomorrow will be a better day.

Gary, Loved your post... I used to live in Hawaii for few years and every day was a vacation for me... miss that time. Than I grow up in Hermosa Beach California. I feel free, happy and complete around the water and large beaches... That was the vacation of my life.

Now What vacation??? Everytime I plan to get out of town someone "serious buyier" appears out of the blue... and there goes my vacation... after all that trouble some don't even go through!

 Maybe next year.

Duane: We can learn so much from kids just watching them.

Marey: Good for you on the basement clean up.

Liz: Yes, there was a Zephyr car. Didn't last very long. A wave machine by the bed? As you see by the time of this post, I could use that some nights.

Arina: Wow, Hawaii and Hermosa Beach, so the land of the desert is quite different from areas with the ocean nearby for sure. Take a vacation when you do get a chance Arina. They are good for all of us. Sounds like you would like one around some water, an ocean or lake. Even Lake Tahoe's not that far from you. Very peaceful there. You can get a boat ride out on the lake too.

Gary, I'm "vacationing" in your neighborhood right now - helping my daughter move.  It's been a long time since I had a vacation like the one you describe!  By the way, thanks for commenting on my commuting guide for Crofton.

Margaret: Thanks for stopping by. Your Crofton commute article was very well done. I remember you saying July was a big month for you and your daughter with her move to Arlington. Welcome again to our area and stay cool. It looks like our normal hot summer month.

Patricia: Just trying to get everyone to slow down a bit and listen to their inner voice.

Gary - I know just what you mean.  My favorite vacations involves sitting by the ocean listening to the water.  I so enjoy paying attention to the sounds and little things around me.

Have you consider another career? you love to inspire others to enjoy life and work and you do this very well.

I love your pictures, makes me want to go to a beach right now!!  Going on vacation gives you the chance to take in sunsets, the ocean, zephyrs, and so much more that we daily take for granted amidst our busy lives.

Jennifer: I love the ocean sound and also water lapping up against the side of a boat. Someone said I should do motivational speaking or write some short stories on the side. Something to think about.

Patricia: It is refreshing. I need to map out and plan a vacation for my family this weekend.

We're heading to the river this weekend to work on our fixer-upper, but that is kind of a vacation for us. My favorite breeze appears in the tree tops. I love to lose my thoughts while watching the branches sway, very relaxing to me.

Yvette: Gentle breeze in the backyard works. Do it in the morning before it gets too hot and sticky. We can celebrate even in the little things we do.

Jacqueline: Have fun at the river. I like the wind in the trees too. It makes such a nice rushing sound.

Gary,

On the slip side I have notice that they can also be scary people. You never know what they are thinking. I have notice this over a period of time. The type A's you usually know where they are at. Just a thought.

Steven: Very quiet people I agree can be disconcerting. Most are good listeners, some are shy, some are gentle, BUT some are up to something. Good observation Steven.
