Is your Car Ready for Colorado Winter Weather?

Denver has seen flurries this year so far, but the thought came to me - wonder if I have all the necessary needsWinter is coming in my car just in case I break down.   I had to put those scrapers back in the car!   This week we are expecting to see snow in the next few days.

Some items you should have in your car during the winter months ---

 ` Water

 ` Blanket

 ` Gloves & Hat

 ` Breakfast bars and water

  - Emergency kit

 ` Flashlight

 ` Windshield scraper

and a roll of toilet paper!

The Red Cross suggests extra winter clothing and a utility knife as well.   If you have a medical condition, extra medicine should be included in this list.     If you should get stranded for a few days --- what would you need?

Cat litter is really good if you should get stuck in the snow, and even a small shovel is a good idea.   Be sure your windshield fluid is full for splashback.

Have you changed your wiper blades and checked your antifreeze lately?     Maybe this is also a great time for snow tires, especially if you travel in the mountains.

Leanne, no matter what weather you experience, there are items you should carry in the car, you are right.

Nina Hollander, Broker you are right, you probably don't have to prepare for CO weather!   Keeping your tires in good condition is a good idea, no matter where you live.

That is a great list to have.  We of course don't get nearly the crazy weather that you do, but when we travel in the mountains those are all great items to make sure to have.  Hope you have a fabulous day!

Norma, I would imagine every state has a bit of different things you carry with you.

Good Morning Joan Cox I had thought it was ready since I brought it to the dealer to ensure I was ready for winter driving. 2 weeks later the battery died and the AAA guy told me "You know this is the original battery, right?" When I bought the vehicle 1½ yrs ago they told me they had replaced the battery. The info on the battery showed otherwise.

Sounds a bit deceptive to me Doug Dawes , and would check back with the car dealer you bought it from!

Hi Joan,

This is such a timely post.  Normally, it is late November that we start to prepare for the cold weather.  But we are supposed to get a cold snap also.  Rick is going to cover plants today.  I will tell him to get the scraper into the car, just in case.  If we get snow, this will be the earliest we have ever seen it.  We normally don't worry about snow until they say 5000 feet.  Well, they said 5000 feet!

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® we got flurries last Thursday, but did not affect the roads.   Today and tomorrow we could get a couple of inches, and right now is only 36 degrees!  BRRR

Kathy, we do have to remind our new CO transplants to unhook hoses during freezing temps, and get their cars ready for winter.
