LIVING IN ROCK HILL

Rock Hill is the largest city in York County, South Carolina and the fifth largest city in the state. Rock Hill is also the fourth largest city in the Greater Charlotte metro area, located about 25 miles south of Charlotte.

Rock Hill offers scenic riverfront views along the Catawba River and is home to numerous nature trails, restaurants, and some 31 parks used for both national and local events. Its historic downtown  (Old Town Rock Hill) consists of twelve contiguous buildings built as early as 1840 offering dining and retail options (now on the National Register).

The city is home to three colleges. Winthrop University, a public liberal arts university founded in 1886, enrolls nearly 6,000 students annually. York Technical College is a public community college in Rock Hill and part of the South Carolina Technical College System. Clinton College is a historically black, Christian college in Rock Hill.

Named a “Boom Town” by the New York Times, Rock Hill is also known as Football City USA for the dozens of NFL players and national football champions who grew up in Rock Hill.

HISTORIC OLD TOWN ROCK HILL

Old Town Rock Hill, which began as a rail station trading center in 1852, is experiencing a renaissance with many completed and ongoing rehab projects of old homes, as well as new construction blending into the historic feel of the neighborhood, which features neoclassical and Gothic Revival architecture.

Rock Hill is enjoying a burgeoning art and dining scene. You’ll find unique restaurants, a vibrant art community, live music, and community festivals in Rock Hill's downtown. There's a Farmer's Market from May to November, Food Truck Fridays, Yoga in the Park on Saturdays, Summer Movies in the Park events.  You’ll find large-scale murals on the Mural Mile and art galleries at the Center for the Arts. For theatre lovers there's the Old Town Theatre Company. In 2014, Fountain Park was added to the landscape of Old Town Rock Hill. The park features a large fountain with an interactive water jet display, green space and a small performance venue.

GETTING AROUND ROCK HILL

Rock Hill offers a free public bus transportation system known as the My Ride Transit System. The bus system has mobile charging ports, free Wi-Fi, and is ADA compliant. Need a break from riding your bike? The bus even has bike racks on the front! With four fixed routes, the bus runs along the key corridors of the city, taking you from one end to the other, allowing you to visit almost any place in Rock Hill. The  My Ride mobile app will let you track where the bus currently is, preview routes, find nearby bus stops, and more! The downtown loop, called Route 1: Knowledge Park Loop, has a bus stop right in front of the Rock Hill Sports & Event Center.

Wayne Martin good morning, Wayne... when I lived in NY City I wanted nothing except a pre-war coop. Here in Charlotte, I'm all about newer construction.

What a great job the contractors did on the rehab! I never would have guessed it was built in 1920. Amazing updates and renovation!

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP thanks, Patricia. In reality, we are only guessing at that 1920 date based on county documents. There is some thought that the home was actually built in 1900.

Joan Cox hi Joan... this is a gentrifying neighborhood of Rock Hill... some people love moving in in the early phases. Never got to meet these buyers but they had been looking for a while, so I suspect they had their eyes on this neighborhood for a while.
