college prank gone wrong

Man I don't know about you but this is just not right.  What would you do if you where her?  I would call a lawyer before i did anything. A lady blames college pranksters for the mistaken demolition of her house - and everything in it. She is trying get fair compensation for the house but says it has been a nightmare.

Vice president Troy Stovall said Jackson State bought the lot next to hers for potential expansion. He says somebody moved signs with the address and a notice that it belonged to the school onto Wilson's lot - so the contractor worked at the wrong site.

The 713-square-foot house had been appraised for just over $10,000. The school offered Wilson $8,000 in May. She says someone from the state finance department offered $20,000 on Thursday.

I hope she gets a lawyer to help her.  It's really sad that the "pranksters" didn't think about how their fun would be so devastating to an innocent person.  Maybe they should be punished by helping build her a new home!

Greg/Nancy- I can not ever imagine something like this happening to me personally.  I would be devastated.  I truly am not one to yell law suit, however, $20,000 just does not seem like even a close amount of money for what she just went through.  I hope she gets a lawyer as well.

Sounds like the contractors bond or insurance is going to have to cover this. Someone is going to have to take the hit on this and its not going to be "the poor homeless little old lady". At least the school stepped up and made her an offer.

I agree with Mike.  The contractor should bear some responsibility for not ensuring the crew was at the right site.  They can't just pull the "we didn't know" defense.

That's awful! The poor lady must be so upset. Can she find another home to replace this one for $20,000? Can she have it rebuilt for $20,000? I would definitely be talking to a lawyer.
