Gratefulness Week 1 - Thank Heaven for Little Boys
Those who know me, know my family is the center of my life - second only to my faith! My boys are 18 months apart, now 33 & 34 and neither certainly are not 'little' any longer! Those boys have been the apples of my eye since the day they were each born.
Matthew is the oldest and he embodies everything an older child typically does - he's very independent and has the biggest heart of anyone I know. He's also incredibly confident as a young adult but, has not always been that way. It took a 'wild & crazy' over-the-top extroverted college roommate to get him out of his painful introversion!
Now, I swear, that boy could talk to a wall! Our close friends and family often comment on the astonishing change in Matt after college. He has grown into a most wonderful young man and will soon celebrate his 1st anniversary with his beautiful wife, Natasha, who has added such a delightful dynamic to our family too.
Ryan, our baby, was the rough-and-tumble one - very outgoing, life-of-the-party, total extrovert - the complete opposite of his big brother.
While Matt's interests were books and Legos, Ryan's passion was basketball - he even slept with his basketball for years! Ryan never met a stranger and I don't recall a single weekend night that at least one of his friends wasn't spending the night at our house! Like Matt, Ryan has grown into such a talented young man.
Ryan is in recruiting and is quite the workaholic (no, the apple didn't fall far from the tree)! He has yet to settle down in a relationship but, Ray and I pray that he finds a wonderful girl, just like our Natasha. Perhaps one of these days he'll let up on the 'work pedal' and slow down enough to meet someone special.
Ryan, during COVID, has been back and forth between Chicago and Charlotte as he works from home most of the time. He is back in Chicago and loving living there. He says he can't imagine ever leaving The Windy City! I have to say, it hurts my feelings a little bit because, to me, there’s no place like home - CHARLOTTE!!
Both of my boys returned to their native Charlotte to find jobs after college. At one point, Matt was transferred to Florida where he spent about 2 years. Thankfully, he landed a position in his same company, here in Charlotte, making the trek back to his hometown, to start his family. We were absolutely gleeful! He and his beautiful wife, Natasha and their son, Liam (that will be another post!) live only about 10-15 minutes away from Ray and me.
Raising these two boys has positively been the biggest accomplishment of my life - by far! I am so very proud of both of them as they have turned into fine young men with great futures ahead of them. The blessings just keep coming!
