Gratefulness Week 1 - Thank Heaven for Little Boys

Those who know me, know my family is the center of my life - second only to my faith! My boys are 18 months apart, now 33 & 34 and neither certainly are not 'little' any longer! Those boys have been the apples of my eye since the day they were each born.

Matt's Baby PicMatthew is the oldest and he embodies everything an older child typically does - he's very independent and has the biggest heart of anyone I know. He's also incredibly confident as a young adult but, has not always been that way. It took a 'wild & crazy' over-the-top extroverted college roommate to get him out of his painful introversion!

Now, I swear, that boy could talk to a wall! Our close friends and family often comment on the astonishing change in Matt after college. He has grown into a most wonderful young man and will soon celebrate his 1st anniversary with his beautiful wife, Natasha, who has added such a delightful dynamic to our family too.

Ryan, our baby, was the rough-and-tumble one - very outgoing, life-of-the-party, total extrovert -  the complete opposite of his big brother.

Roo's Graduation
While Matt's interests were books and Legos, Ryan's passion was basketball - he even slept with his basketball for years! Ryan never met a stranger and I don't recall a single weekend night that at least one of his friends wasn't spending the night at our house! Like Matt, Ryan has grown into such a talented young man.

Ryan is in recruiting and is quite the workaholic (no, the apple didn't fall far from the tree)! He has yet to settle down in a relationship but, Ray and I pray that he finds a wonderful girl, just like our Natasha. Perhaps one of these days he'll let up on the 'work pedal' and slow down enough to meet someone special.

Ryan, during COVID, has been back and forth between Chicago and Charlotte as he works from home most of the time. He is back in Chicago and loving living there. He says he can't imagine ever leaving The Windy City! I have to say, it hurts my feelings a little bit because, to me, there’s no place like home - CHARLOTTE!!

Both of my boys returned to their native Charlotte to find jobs after college. At one point, Matt was transferred to Florida where he spent about 2 years. Thankfully, he landed a position in his same company, here in Charlotte, making the trek back to his hometown, to start his family. We were absolutely gleeful! He and his beautiful wife, Natasha and their son, Liam (that will be another post!) live only about 10-15 minutes away from Ray and me.

Raising these two boys has positively been the biggest accomplishment of my life - by far!  I am so very proud of both of them as they have turned into fine young men with great futures ahead of them.  The blessings just keep coming!

Hi Debe you did a fantastic job of raising those little boys into big, strong and successful young men! So fun to see your photos!  I'm glad at least one lives back at home, and you just never know, someday both may be there!

How wonderful it was reading about your boys Debe Maxwell, CRS !  They're both handsome and smart (the apple didn't fall far from that tree either!)  You have a lot to be proud of and grateful for.

Hello Debe - although I am not a parent, I have observed a lot over the years.  And it seems time has a habit of speeding by us much too quickly.  And the growth of children seems to follow in a similar direction.

Yes, thank heaven for little boys.  I was sitting here thinking this morning.  My oldest grandson will turn 40 on Christmas eve.  If that doesn't give a wake up call, nothing will.

Very handsome men, Debe, and you have a lot to be proud of and to be grateful for, as they journey on! Like you, we have two boys and I call them salt and pepper because their personalities are so very different as well as their looks.

Debe my two boys have the same personalities as your two.  Funny how two kids growing in the same household can be so different from each other.

By the way I have to remember that saying "could talk to a wall" ..... LOL

HaHa, you know me well, Carol Williams! While I would have been a perfectly terrible girl mommy, I think I would do pretty well as a girl Mimi too! The Tom-boy in me has lessened as I've gotten older! LOL

How wonderful! I feel like I should write about being mom to my two boys but that's such a given! Being a mom to wonderful male adults has been one of the highlights of my life. I feel like I have to find something harder to write about. Hmm. Maybe not.

Hi Debe- I know how tall you are, so if you'd had a few more like Matt and Ryan, you could have started a basketball team!!! LOL You are indeed blessed and i am so happy for you that Ryan, Nathasha, and of course, Liam , are so close to you now!!!

OMG Debe Maxwell, CRS - you got me with that title! Then to see you with your BIG boys made me laugh and study closer what beautiful boys you have. And, as a shorty, I loved seeing how SHORT you looked in that picture. LOL

Yes our children are very unique, and yours have different qualities, just like mine. Don't we just love them as they are! One challenges you from the time they are born; they other one has a completely different personality. LOL  LOL

As for Ryan loving Chicago and how you feel about that, I understand. From my personal experience, Chicago is a great place for single people. There are so many good job opportunities, cultural places, museums, Forest Preserves, sporting events, things to do in winter that don't seem to bother them no matter how cold it gets, public transportation, Lake Michigan, night clubs, etc. All that is fun. But when people settle down and have a significant other and/or children, many leave the city for greener pastures, which could, of course be Charlotte or at least a lot closer.

What a blessing boys are and you are too!

Good morning, Debe... thank you for that beautiful introduction to your sons. Your love for them is evident in every sentence. Meantime, one of my long-time most favorite clients just relocated to Chicago... maybe she and Ryan need an introduction! :)

My two girls are also very different Debe, isn't it funny how that happens? But they are very close and I couldn't ask for better kids. I can imagine how hard it must be to have one of your sons living a plane ride away. Believe me, there will be (many) times that he wishes he was closer!
