Is it a plane, no it is a drone but doing what?

Yesterday when I was walking Jackie we saw this very large drone. It has six motors/propellers. It was moving slowly over the land that has been being prepared for the next phase of building at Big Elk. This area will have a number of single family ranch homes.

I talked with one of the workmen and he said this drone was sowing grass seed, but I also heard from a neighbor that they were doing a laser survey. Well as you can see in the photo above they were filling it with something, which I thought looked like seed. It moved very slowly, not far above the ground and it supposedly helps them when sowing seed in hard to reach places around culverts etc.

The workman we spoke with said the drone cost about $50,000 and there is a larger one too which costs $100,000. So, I am thinking this may be a multi tasking drone that can be used for surveying and seeding. They did constantly replace batteries.

We did see the drone get rocked by a plastic bag that swept up and almost got caught in one of the propellers. It lost height, swerved and tilted till it righted itself and continued flying on its mission.

Interesting how our world changes and what new tools there are to use for different jobs. A few years ago I am sure they would have done this with a tractor or a blower. Now they use a drone.

In the same way, the real estate business is constantly evolving and we use new tools and methods to market homes and sell properties. If you want to sell your home or want to find a home to buy and are interested in using the most modern methods contact Nick Vandekar, Selling the Main Line and Chester County with Long & Foster Real Estate Inc., office 610-225-7400, cell or text 610-203-4543, email Nick@VandekarTeam.com. That's quite a drone they're using. But it doesn't really surprise me. Drones are now being used for all kinds of things - surveying, mapping, surveillance, search & rescue, etc. And of course... real estate.  : )

Good morning, Nick... change is always in the air. One change I see in my business when it comes to drones is roof inspections with a drone. For a long time our roof inspections were substandard here as inspectors were not allowed to "walk" a roof.

Interesting. I wonder if it's less expensive doing it this way than using a tractor. Probably.

Hmm, that is interesting and I am guessing that is more affordable than having an airplane do it.

Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, Phoenix Broker it was very cool to see and very quiet as well.

Hannah Williams it was fascinating to see.

Michael Cole I thought they might be surveying until I saw them refilling a hopper in the middle.

Leanne Smith I can see this being used where you are to cover difficult terrain.

Endre Barath, Jr. very true, something we do to survive.

My understanding is the drone pilot must be licensed thru the FAA authority.  If not, there are significant fines to the drone photography as well as the listing agent.

Nina Hollander, Broker I can see that being a very good use for a drone, especially as they can take photos to illustrate any defects.

Kat Palmiotti talking with the person I was, he said it is not so much cheaper, as the drones are expensive up front, but it allows them to seed difficult areas more easily.

Brian England I think the area is too small for an airplane, so this is a good use.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 very true, lots of different uses for them nowadays.

Hi Nick- I love that drones can give you a view that you would otherwise not have. Larry used to fly RC planes when we were in FL. Years ago, one of his friends brought his brand new drone to the field. Maiden flight... you guessed it. Crashed and burned!!!

Kathy Streib I think it could be fun to use one, but getting the license and doing the tests I thought I would leave it to the professionals. I also know my skills on XBox etc were never that great coordinating all the buttons and can only imagine how I might be with a drone.

Hi Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 - Wow, that is a huge drone.  I was expecting that it was for a movie.  My husband has been piloting DJI UAVs since 2013.  Most people didn't even know about them back then.   He has had four upgrades.  In the beginning, you really had to fly these things.  Now, they are very intuitive.  He loves using his latest one. Of course, the cameras are so much better than in the beginning.

Because of our density, drones are not permitted in much of the city.  There are both privacy and safety issues that were considered. That said, engineers are proposing to allow drones to help inspect facades Every 5 years any building 6 stories or taller must have the facade inspected by an engineer (trying to avoid bricks and facade elements from raining down on people) - and currently that involves the engineers either rope down the side of the building or if the building is adequately set up for scaffolding. For the buildings on the shorter end of the spectrum- it's also possible to have a cherry picker lift if the engineering firm has the equipment but it might not satisfy the requirements to inspect all sides of the building.  A drone on the other hand with quality cameras could satisfy all the requirements and save building management a lot of time and money.  I haven't heard any updates since Covid hit- but they were aiming to overcome the objections by creating a licensing program for engineering firms as well as routine inspections for the drones. I am hoping the proposed drone program is ultimately allowed- because these facade inspections every 5 years are incredibly expensive.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 - Fascinating! $50- $100K for drones? I wonder if this would be a great tax write off for business expenses? I wonder if you can buy them and rent them out for extra income? My mind is blown with multiple question marks!

I wonder if Andrew Mooers | 207.532.6573 knows more about this super duper drone???

Drones used in my area to plot the best acreage use for farms, for aerial surveying, woodlot cruises, inspecting broadcast towers, roofs on home inspections. The bird's eye view using a drone adds to the show and tell big time. Where the property is... when a lake is so so close down the road, seeing the video and still images from up above is more powerful in the information transfer. But you better have passed your FAA Part 107 drone airman's license to fly the friendly skies Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543  and Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP ! Weather is the biggest consideration to flying your drone for safety and for the best video imagery.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® I have always toyed with getting one, but I have a great photographer and he uses his when I need drone photos.

Adam Feinberg I have seen inspectors use them for roofs, but your suggestion makes a lot of sense, especially if it cuts costs.

Joan Cox my son used one when he was in the military in Iraq, it allowed them to look around a location before entering to see if anyone was lying in ambush.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP I thought the same, especially renting it out to farmers for seeding.

Andrew Mooers | 207.532.6573 thank you, I can see how a drone can be very effective showing someone just how close that lake actually is, when all you can see from ground level is trees.
