A November 16 explosion and fire injured multiple residents, including several children, at a condominium complex at 826 Quince Orchard Boulevard in Gaithersburg. Two buildings sustained significant damage and partially collapsed in the blast. Two other buildings were also evacuated because they may have structural damage. Many people were evacuated with little or nothing and now are in temporary shelter. At the request of Montgomery County, MHP is collecting financial donations to help affected families.

This is a Montgomery County, Maryland announcement. The residents of 24 condo units have been displaced by this explosion and fire.

During a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Montgomery County Fire Chief Scott Goldstein said that search and rescue dogs found a body in the debris of the explosion. Officials say they have not identified any personal information about the victim, including their age, gender, and whether they lived at the complex or were just visiting.

The body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to determine a cause of death.

Police also spoke at the press conference saying that the incident is now being investigated as a potential intentional criminal act. Police say the investigation was prompted by the discovery of the dead body. Police did not release any further details on the investigation.

Marcus Jones, the county’s police chief, told reporters during a news briefing Friday that the state medical examiner said the body was identified as that of Juan Pablo Marshall Quizon, who owned a condo at 826 Quince Orchard Boulevard.

Investigators have found a suicide note from Quizon at the scene, but police and Scott Goldstein, the county’s fire chief, declined to say where that alleged note was found or what it said.

Wow, that's quite a disaster, Roy.  And, to think it was intentional is frightening.
