Debe Maxwell, CRS 's November 2022 Thanksgiving Gratitude Challenge is another great opportunity to think about those things we are grateful for. Of course, the first things that came to my mind are the same things I usually write about this time of year. Family, loved ones, etc. I'm going to try to come up with four totally different ideas this year.
My first post addressed my thankfulness for generators; my second post was about community. And this one is about opportunity. This one is about everything else.
There are so many other things I'm thankful for, I thought I'd lump a few of them together for this final November 2022 challenge post.
Corrective Lenses:
While I may complain from time to time when I have to go find my reading glasses to read something, or when my contact lenses get dry or when I scratch a lens, I am very thankful that we have corrective technology. We can opt for a surgical procedure, a pair of glasses, or daily contact lenses. There are multiple companies now that will send you frames to try before you buy. You can buy three pairs of reading glasses at a discount in a store such as Costco. Imagine if that technology did not exist and we had to operate without being able to see clearly? That would be terrible. So I'm thankful for Corrective Lenses.
The Outdoors:
I happen to live in an amazing place that is full of lakes, rivers, streams, creeks, hills, valleys and mountains. But no matter where I've lived or where I've visited, I have always taken advantage of the outdoors. Taking a walk down a sidewalk can provide just as many interesting things to see as hiking through a northwest Montana forest. Possibly not as pretty, but most definitely interesting. I am grateful we live in a country with multiple options for enjoying the outdoors, whether that means walking, hiking, biking, driving, boating, horseback riding, snowshoeing, skiing or whatever. I think time in the outdoors can help keep us healthy so I'm very grateful.
Good Health
Another wonderful thing to be grateful for. I'm very lucky to have had good health (so far). As anyone who has dealt with the opposite knows, health challenges can seriously impact the quality of life. And it can be very hard to maintain a positive attitude when your body or mind is not cooperating. So I am glad that I have (and my family has) so far remained healthy. (PS - photo is not me!)
Music
I'm sure I've mentioned this in past years, but I am so thankful for music. It's on in the background right now as I write this. I love to play it when I find the time and motivation (piano, guitar, flute), and I love to listen to it both live and "on Memorex" haha. For anyone who doesn't remember that, I mean to say both live and recorded.
Food
Oh my, what can I say? I am so lucky to have been born where I am. Not only can we go into a grocery store and buy whatever we want, but we can go into many grocery stores! I have five major grocers within a 15-20 minute drive from my home, and that doesn't include all the specialty and organic shops. Not only that, I have the good fortune to be able to grow a garden. Talk about healthy! And I am grateful that I love to cook and experiment with food. While it does happen on occasion, I'm rarely bored with food choices. So thank you for food!!!
Everything Else
I could go on and on. The bottom line is that besides my family and other loved ones, I am grateful for everything else. And I am grateful to you for reading this far! And I am grateful to Debe for the November challenge. And I am grateful for.....
