All great tips for keeping your pets safe.

We used to have two cats and they loved the Christmas tree.  I sure miss them and their fun loving nature.

Ray Henson hi Ray... I've been very fortunate in that none of my cats have ever bothered any tress, either live or fake. I'm sure you miss yours... maybe you'll get another cat when you move?

Great advice Nina. Most people are careful watching out for their pets, but sometimes they forget one of these tips!

Good Morning Nina Hollander, Broker - these are all excellent tips for pet safety during the Christmas holidays. I did not know "hanging lemon-scented car air fresheners in the tree," would deter cats from climbing the indoor trees. Now that's clever and very good to know. Plus all your other tips are keepers too.

Thank you for the PSA!! Lots of things to watch out for during the holiday season .. I had no idea about the citrus scent possibly deterring cats from tree scaling-- but I will be sharing that info with all the cat owners I know!

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 hi Sheila... I'm often showing homes that have been decorated and that clearly have a pet or two in them... and I immediately see all sorts of issues that would be harmful to those pets.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP hi Patricia... apparently cats don't like citrus smell. I did not know that either until I started doing some research for this post.

Lise Howe hi Lise... I came across that citrus scent tip by accident and it doesn't show up much in tips for Christmas tree safety articles.

We never seemed to have a problem with any of our dogs in all of the years with the tree. However, my son's cat won't stay out of their tree.  Great information, as always.  Thanks for sharing!  Have a fabulous day!

Norma J. Elkins hi Norma... I've never had issues with either my cats or dogs. (Lucky me) Have your son try hanging citrus scented car air fresheners inside the tree. Supposedly they keep cats away.

There's lots of great safety advice for pet owners in this timely post. Cats and dogs can certainly get into all kinds of mischief during the holidays.

Jeff Dowler, CRS hi Jeff... I read somewhere that it's important to decorate a tree without the presence of a dog or cat so they don't get the idea that this is some kind of fun activity for them to share with you.

Hi Nina- our biggest issue was when our poor Brittany lost her sight. We weren't thinking and when I came home one day, the tree had been knocked over. Thank goodness she wasn't hurt.

Kathy Streib hi Kathy... oh, how sad. My trees are always tucked into a corner, so that reduces the chances of a knock-over.
