Motivational Monday…Never Stoop

My Aunt Berda taught me so many things…such as how to buy the perfect purse…turn your rings around if you’re in a questionable place**…and Never Stoop.

All of her tips have served me well but none more than not stooping. It was with an admonishment that we (all of the children) were better than that and to do so would only lower ourselves to their level.

So many times there are situations…when working with other agents, or our clients…when we are lured into engaging with someone whom we know is wrong. You know that person…the one who is adamant that their way is the right way.

And no matter what we say or how much backing we may have, nothing will change their mind or how they feel.

The better road to take is the one that is marked HIGH.

When you’re at the crossroad of HIGH ROAD and STOOPING…take the road that will let you still feel good about yourself when you look in the mirror the next day.

Never argue with stupid people. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Mark Twain

It’s hard to win an argument with a smart person, but it’s damn near impossible to win an argument with a stupid person.

Bill Murray

Never try to match someone’s bad energies or petty deeds. You’re better than that. Simply disappear from their lives and keep being amazing.

Unknown

**Seriously, she was with my uncle and another couple once and got mugged in the parking lot. Aunt Berda had her rings turned under and they missed them but took her friend’s rings.

Good thing I read to the end, I was wondering about "turn your rings around if you’re in a questionable place" and I thought it was maybe to be prepared to fight, haha.  Like having brass knuckles, I was picturing the scene, haha.

Dorie Dillard Austin TX that's a favorite quote of mine. It can be frustrating when you're facing someone who is wrong, in their actions or words, but there are times when it's best to walk away.

Good morning again, Kathy... Mark Twain and Bill Murray are spot-on. Arguing with stupid is stupid in my opinion. I learned to avoid stupid a long time ago. Life is so much easier when you figure out how to do that.

Nina Hollander, Broker I think that this is something that many of us don't learn until we're a lot older.

When I first read the title, I thought you would be reflecting what my mother, father, grandparents, aunts and uncles all said "Stand up straight, don't stoop." I enjoyed you sharing "stooping" and participating down at another person's level.

By the way, the Mark Twain quote is one of my favorites.

Leanne Smith oh yes...I was told not to "stoop" in that manner as well.

Good morning, Kathy.
All great quotes to start the week. I agree with Nina Hollander, Broker . Arguing with stupid people IS stupid. Just move on.

Happy Monday!

Kathy, it has been a while since I had a "heated" conversation with an agent.    It is always better to let it slide, and cool off.

The lessons that remain from sage advice so many years ago is still relevant today, especially the stooping part. I'd rather cross the road than try to reason with someone who always thinks they're right and the expert on everything.

Love this Monday post, Kathy, thank you!

I love the "turn your rings around" tip.

Never stoop is something that we all have the opportunity for each day. I find myself telling people (and constantly reminding myself) "do not engage" a lot lately.

Hi Kathy,

Wise advice!  I do everything I can to steer clear of those with negative energy.  It is a little easier said than done in business, but you can minimize the harmful effects.
