There are many things that we humans take for granted, and one of them is plumbing. We were raised to believe it was a basic necessity. However, we were unaware that there was a time when people would throw their trash on the streets or anywhere. We don't realize that bathing was once considered dangerous, and people would go years without bathing.

  1. Plumbing enables the safe use of a valuable resource — water — for health, hygiene, and well-being. Plumbing enables the miracle of clean, convenient water, which is often taken for granted.

  1. Water-saving plumbing manufacturing innovations have significantly reduced the amount of water used by toilets, showerheads, faucets, and other plumbing products. According to the EPA, plumbing products that meet EPA criteria have saved consumers 757 billion gallons of water and $14.2 billion in water and energy bills since 2006.

  1. Plumbing products are certified to perform as well as or better than standard models while saving at least 20% more water, ensuring customer satisfaction.

  1. Increased use of water-efficient plumbing is an important, but often overlooked, component of water sustainability. The EPA estimates that if every U.S. household switched to plumbing products, the country could save 3 trillion gallons of water and more than $17 billion per year. Commercial plumbing with high efficiency can help save even more money.

  1. Modern plumbing products enable drought- and water-stressed areas to use water more efficiently. According to the Denver Post, Denver reduced water use to a 40-year low in December 2014. The replacement of 3,200 3.5 gallons per flush (gpf) toilets in Denver Public Schools with 1.25 gpf toilets contributed to the decrease. Denver intends to replace 6,800 more people by 2018.

  1. Water efficiency makes a significant contribution to energy savings. Less water used equals less water heated and transported. Installing Safe-labeled faucet aerators, for example, in bathrooms can help save water and energy.

  1. Plumbing adds beauty and comfort to homes and lives. Kitchens and bathrooms serve more than just functional purposes; they also provide a haven for comforting meals, soothing baths, and restorative relaxation.

  1. The plumbing industry is a powerful economic engine that employs and sustains millions of people worldwide.

  1. Throughout history, the ability of plumbing and sanitation systems to deliver clean water and remove waste has protected populations from communicable disease. Many in the public health community acknowledge that clean, drinkable water has likely saved more lives and extended life expectancy than any medical advancement. Plumbing advances continue to save lives in developing countries.

  1. Water sustainability is an attainable goal as plumbing manufacturers collaborate with allies in safe plumbing and water efficiency to find solutions.

Many countries around the world are running out of water, and many have already depleted their supplies.

However, not all hope is lost. The plumbing industry is working around the clock to develop water-sustainability solutions. For safe plumbing, the industries are collaborating with other manufacturers, and water sustainability does not appear to be far off in the future.
