If you exchanged gifts with family and friends over the Christmas holiday I hope you were pleased with what you received. Timmothy's Titus and Philemon cartoon above reminds me of when I was a child.
My Grandmother (whom lived with us) had a friend who I don't ever remember meeting that always sent us kids a gift at Christmas time. It was always a hoot but that was not Mrs. Malm's intention. I think she thought us boys were giants. As a 6 year old she sent me men's size 14 socks.
The tradition of gift giving at Christmas started over 2,000 years ago when Wise men seeked the King who's birth was announced by an unusually bright star in the sky that brought them to the birthplace of Jesus.
Wise men still seek him today. It can be said that God was the original gift giver as he offers us a mediator between Him (the perfect) and us (the imperfect).
A gift has no value if it is not accepted by the person whom it was intended for, I hope you have accepted the greatest gift given to each and every one of us. As free moral agents you have the right to accept the gift, refuse it, or even totally deny it's existence.
I don't know what ever happened to the gifts Mrs. Malm gave us but I can tell you we were always excited to see what she sent us each year. Gift giving and receiving is always fun. What ever you received I hope it blessed you with the joy intended by the giver. As my Mom taught me, ALWAYS send a thank you card to the giver.
I intend to thank the Greatest gift giver this Sunday when I visit Him at His house this Sunday... Hope you do too.
