Feng Shui in New York---Wealth, Where IS it?

At a recent Feng Shui Consultation on lovely Long Island, New York, I found my clients about to do some work on their backyard.  They stopped in the middle to wait for a Feng Shui Consultant to advise them on the best placements of things for their yard, realizing that in Feng Shui we not only address the inside of a home or business, but the outside as well.

The "WEALTH" area in Feng Shui using the Bagua Method would be your back left hand corner if you are standing in front of your front door.  And wealth, they told me, was slow coming in these days.  I had asked them what was there prior to the cleanup and have heard this SO many times, I thought I'd write about it.  It had formerly been just a place they were storing bricks while they decided whether or not to use them.

Feng Shui Money by Feng Shui Long Island & New York City

The WEALTH area in Feng Shui is not a place to "store" anything.  When you think about bricks, think about how heavy they are....undoubtably weighing down their income.  I have seen often this area as storage....the place for firewood is popular in this spot as well.  Firewood is necessary but it is also DEAD ENERGY.  Not something I would want in my Wealth corner!

If you want to address the outside of your home from a Feng Shui perspective, think of your back left hand corner and what's there.  If it's empty, it's the perfect place to put in an evergreen, a tree that will grow and stay green even through the sometimes brutal winters.  You can also add something of the color PURPLE, the accent color of money.  Some people also add bells or chimes (The Black Sect School suggests you "Ring in the Money."

Some of my clients get very creative---by accident.  I had noticed at one home that she had a small "Welcome" sign in the back left hand corner of their home.  It was an inexpensive sign that you usually would put as a small accent sign in the front of your home.  When I had asked her about her finances, she told me her finances had recently increased.  I pointed out that perhaps the sign had "Welcomed" in the Money.  Just maybe there IS something to Feng Shui after all!

Lol Carole I am laughing reading your post it's almost as if you described our backyard - I will be adding purple flowers and bells to these evergreens soon :)

You said " If it's empty, it's the perfect place to put in an evergreen, a tree that will grow and stay green even through the sometimes brutal winters.

Here's what our back left looks like ( we have an acre lot lined by evergreens)

Sincerely, Grace

Hi Carole, We have a gorgeous jackaranda tree that just took off a bit from us getting rid of a big eucalyptus.  It has amazing purple flowers.  That corner is into the hillside.  Inside, it is my daughter's room.  Is that why she always has more money than I do?

Inside my house, the left corner is inside my closet, which is where I have to store things.  Should I clean out that corner and hang something nice there?

Thanks for the advice!

Chris

Hello Carole,

Guess what I am getting out......the Welcome sign!! The only problem is our double detached garage is behind our house in the left corner. There is a small space in between the house and garage where I have a very small raised flower bed/garden, it doesn't get enough sun to plant much in it. I am going to go right now and dig up some of my purple pansies and plant them there.

Thanks for this information Carole!!

Ok, Carole--welcome sign--that I can do, but is it a good place or not for my composter?  My back left corner used to be a "dump spot", with old rotted wood and piles of tree needles (it's where there's a large pine, and a couple of fruit trees).  I just replaced the old fence with new panels a couple of months ago, but also put the composter there--so what say you--bad or good?  Maybe if I put up a "Welcome, bugs & worms"  Sign?  ;^)  I could paint it on the barrel...in PURPLE--YES!!  Note to self--new project for this weekend--paint the composter...

As always, thank you for a wonderful post and a wonderful blog!

Kathleen, Put something heavy there to anchor your wealth to the land, not the water...we don't want it to drift on by.  I'm thinking of a medium stone or even a plant to keep the energy in your property.

Gary, Plant an evergreen, even a small one.  Add some color and or bells and things should get better. It's actually much more detailed but that should get you started!

Fred, You home is just lovely.  And you have a lovely wandering path to the front door, I hope you're using it and not the garage door.

Jo, When you walk out the door onto the balcony look at your left hand corner....it's Wealth.  A plant is recommended (round leaves) and a touch of the color purple.  The bagua can be as big or small as you want it to be.

Shirley, Firewood is dead energy, you do need to move it.  Not something we want in the Wealth corner!

Duane, We can get some snowfalls here that seem to last forever.  I have many evergreens and I love the way they look ALL year. And they're good Feng Shui :)

Carol, It should mean your wealth is "grounded" but there are always things to do if you want to increase it.  The right side is Partnership/Relationships that apply to personal and business.  No doubt coming up soon :)

Arina, You might want to add some color or think of purple, especially.  I try to make my Feng Shui posts  full of tips and advice.

Chris, Construction can make the energy change rapidly....I've got it going on almost one year now.  You'll get lots of great days and a few off ones and when the construction is over, you regain the harmony.

Debbie, If you're not using it and don't plan to, can you get rid of it?  Leaves room for more Wealth to come in.  Either way, the flowers will be great.

Cristal, It's funny, I recently suggested to my client that they put a small round table and two chairs in rhe back right for partnership.....

Jeff, Thank you.  I did just do that post on blocking your chi and it's important to cut everything back when it's time....I've seen just a few landscapers that have done a beautiful job and I'll bet they didn't know it, either.   Most don't, however.

Cynthia, The trees should protect you from the flow of the water (money passing you by). They are grounded and I'd add a little purple.

Kate, How nice to see you back!  I hope things are well.  The fireplace there in my opinion is a good sign (ignite your money!) but I would find another place to stash the wood.  You can just move it further up but I'd take it out of my wealth.

Marie, I'd find another area.  Even if you have to cover it with something to make it look better.  One place that is really not recommended for storage.

Martha, Wonderful.  I've done so many posts I try to remember what I have and haven't posted on...but chances are if I don't remember, neither does anyone else.  You can bagua anything, it can be as big or small as you like.

Teri, From my perspective I absolutely believe the cymbals qualify and when he plays back there he's adding pure energy and fire...love it!

Grace, Wow, I love to see that!  They are perfect and uniform (balanced), a wonderful Feng Shui Aspect in many ways!

Elaine, It just might be whey she does so well!  Funny that my daughter has the "wealth room" and she's doing very well!  Hills and mountains at your back BACK YOU UP IN LIFE....that's good news.

Sally, I would love orchards....I know my hibiscus didn't make it, I'm afraid to try them.  Get a welcome sign or even a plant but put it in with Intention.  And say hi to Mr. W if you see him :)

Chris, If the closet is neat and orderly and has room to spare (very important so new energy can come in), I'd leave it and add some money enhancers there....they don't have to be expensive and won't show.  Look for Feng Shui coins that are held together by red ribbon or a money frog.

Trace, You don't need a lot, you just need intention....and a clean garage where there is room for new energy.

Wow, Loretta, that's a hard question!  The cycles of a composter are dying and regnerating....I'd hate for your money to do that....can you move it to the middle back?  If not put some plants around it for life force.

ugh, I was afraid you were going to say something like that...boogers!  I really don't have a middle back to speak of--it's a corner lot--here's a really rough aerial with my squiggly pen notations--the red X marks where the composter is:

I must admit, I didin't know that Feng Shui is important on the outside as well as on the inside.  My left hand corner is full of evergreens; I'm off to get the welcome sign and some bells.

This is wonderful information! I have no idea about the feng shui of landscaping. As I am an avid gardener, do you suggest any books or websites on this subject? I am going to check out the back left corner tomorrow but I am pretty sure I planted a spruce there shortly after moving in!

Loretta, If you can't move it then we have to work around it. Here's what I would do:  I'd get a shepards hook and put it all the way back in the corner, you'll have room because it takes an inch or less of space and hang some flowers on it.

I would also still put an evergreen as close as you can to the front of it that allows you to get into it and do what you need to do.  And to put your INTENTION into these things that you want to attract more money.

Joan, A bagua can go over any space, big or small so we can absolutely do our yards with Feng Shui in mind.

Rich, I'd say you'd have to be doing something right, I saw those squash and it felt like you'd just planted them...they're thriving!  I don't know of a Feng Shui book for landscaping but I will look into it for you.

Carole - Thanks! I am going to harvest some leaf lettuce tonight for salad! I am going to search the internet for a site that might be dedicated to the subject.

Me too!  Me too!  I'd love to read more on feng shui for the outside--I get bored working on the inside all the time...

So, Carole--here's my quick fix--I've been out in the yard all day today, practically:  I cleaned it up more, and since there are some tree branches hanging over the composter I hung a couple of plants there, and moved some chimes there as well.  I took a good hard look out my kitchen window at the area, and right outside the window is a purple bouganvillea--that's good, right?

I've been planning to put a fountain back there--that whole side of the yard is slated for my "serenity garden"--that's ok, right?  As for evergreen, the whole side is dominated by two very mature pines, and there's a lemon tree and some other tropicals back there as well.  I think if I get some impatiens in purple and hang them back there maybe I'll be good(?)  I hope...

Thank you so much for your wonderful, informative posts!  When would you like your trip to Florida?  ;^)

Carole, this is fascinating!  When we bought our home the back yard had yet to be landscaped but the left rear corner was tall weeds, wild smaller trees and a fire pit where they burned their leaves etc.  We cleaned it all out and planted a beautiful Sugar Maple surrounded by azaleas but have yet to finish the area.  Now I will think purple and evergreens!  You are just so awesome.

Rich, There is a book called Feng Shui Landscaping by Richard Webster.  It should have some good ideas in there--there are others but this seemed to me to be the best.

Loretta, It does sound much better.  I wouldn't get a permanent waterfall for the area however, you should get a smaller one if you like that can be moved to another area.  BTW, Fruit is abundance in FS.

Diane, It's so odd that I thought people knew this and I'm glad I posted on it.  Taking the weeds out and cleaning up the area is the best thing you could have done and from MY perspective, I like to see FIRE in the area.

Rich, Good, I hope you find it interesting and helpful but your garden looks beautiful.
