As many of you know, I am a crabbing enthusiast. One of my favorite pastimes in the Summer months is to take my beloved boat, a 16ft. C-Dory, out onto Hood Canal, and drop off my crab pots.

We motor over to Pleasant Harbor, just south of Brinnon, where we snag a slice of pizza, and sit out on the deck, soaking up some rays, killing a couple hours til our pots are full with the delictable Dungeness bounty!

For the first 5 people who can tell me what the current 'Per Day' catch limits are in the State of Washington, I will award you 500 points each.

The first 5 people to place the correct answer in the proceeding 'Comments Section' will be awarded the 500 points!

42 Comments on The 500 Point Question!

The daily catch limit in Puget Sound is five Dungeness crab, males only, in hard-shell condition with a minimum carapace width of 6¼ inches. Fishers may catch six red rock crab of either sex per day, provided those crab measure at least 5 inches across. Additional information is available in WDFW's Fishing in Washington pamphlet on the website at http://wdfw.wa.gov/fish/regs/fishregs.htm.

With 27 comments already made, I knew I wouldn't win points, but I was curious. Only five per day? What am I supposed to do for lunch and dinner with only five per day??? I bet I know where you're gonna be tomorrow~

Happy 4th and Happy Crabbing!

Rich let me see five is just not enough, they should at least let you catch five per person on the boat.  I could eat five of them by myself in no time :) :)

Crap, After I spent all that time reading about Dungeness crabs, seems others already knew the answer. Oh well, it is some interesting new laws. Now if you were to be a commercial fisherman and need a class B license, that is a whole different number. Guess, your not a commercial fisherman. Go get your crabs and I  will try again when you ask a question that I don't have to spend so much time reading about it. All is good though, this information might come in handy if the markets don't get  better, lol.

I had no idea until reading the comments but, I just stopped to share that I was JUST folding my son's t-shirts from college and found a new one and got a kick out of it:  "Crab Naked" is what it reads!!  Thought you'd get a laugh out of that--just the visual is pretty scary, huh?!!

Hi Rich.  Great pic!  We are actually going crabbing for the first time this weekend in Newport, Oregon.  We're really looking forward to it.  Happy 4th!

It would almost be humorous if I said 5 at this point eh Rich??  lol~  Keep the points, send me some fresh cooked crab.  We'll have to have some in the "Big City" this month!  :-)

07/04/2008 02:18 AM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

I think it depends on where you are catching them.  If it is in Puget Sound it is 5 males of minimum size, but if you are in the the Columbia River it is 12 and 6 in the Pacific Ocean.

07/05/2008 02:22 AM by Randy L. Prothero - Hawaii REALTOR® (Century 21 Liberty Homes)

Rich,

My wife says I am crabby too. We should start a club for crabs.

07/05/2008 12:54 PM by Steven L. Smith, Bellingham, Wa. Home Inspector (King of the House Home Inspection)

The limit is five Dungeness crabs.

07/05/2008 08:15 PM by Crab Catch

Rich, We don't have crabs in Alabama...well....not that kind anyway, ROTFL...

Sorry, just wanted HAD to say that.

07/05/2008 11:04 PM by Huntsville, Alabama Real Estate Agent Elizabeth Ramsey Cooper-Golden (Remax Huntsville/Madison)

Rich,

One of my favorite shows is the Deadliest Catch...haven't missed one episode in 4 seasons. I was tempted to tell my wife I was going to go to Alaska and try to get a job as a greenhorn and see if I was in good enough shape to make it through one season...maybe I'll take King Crab...but those Opies are tough because you have to fish them in very dangerous weather...I ain't choppin no ice!  You have to respect those guys and the job they do...at least they get a big paycheck working only part of the year.

Hello Rich,  sorry I missed the opp for the bonus points.

How far is Pleasant Harbor from Camp Thunderbird?  I was an ASM in 1999 when the Troop camped there in August.  I couldn't believe the water was warm enough for me to do the Mile Swim in, and the Polar Bear Swim!  One of our best camping experiences, to be sure.
