Today I am typing my first post here in active|rain on my formally Microsoft stained fingers. Hallelujah!! Today I have gone ‘cold turkey’ and kicked the habit… the Microsoft habit that is.

Having been a PC person since, 1983, I have been through the whole gambit of operating systems that MS had to offer starting with the very early days of DOS… Some systems were better than others with XP probably being one of their best accomplishments in my view.

Yes, there were some challenges. One of my biggest peeves was with the idiot who came up the pop-up balloons at the system tray. UG! This guy needs to have an emergency vasectomy done to stop the spread of that gene pool and the idiot who came up with the annoying system restart after windows does an update needs to have the same procedure. However, whoever came up with the brilliant idea for Vista needs a total brain transplant… they do those don’t they?

One of the major deciding factors of going with a Mac was Microsoft’s stance on Vista v/s XP. As most of you know, that as of 1 July, MS will no longer sell XP as an operating system on new computers and will no longer do any development on that operating system. The only way that you can get XP is for the manufacturer to FIRST purchase Vista then purchase XP to load on the computer. This sux big time… So instead of investing in a new PC with Vista (gag) I made the decision to say, "Asta la Vista – Microsoft" and go iMac. So Bill... Take your vista and shove it...

Yes, the Mac OSX leopard system does take some getting used to... it only took me 15 minutes to figure how to turn the &^%$!# thing off. Hopefully, the learning curve will not be too steep as I go through the transformation from PC to Mac.

Any way if any of you Mac users have any tips for this formally ‘PC’ junkie, please, please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated… as they say south of the border ‘Much Grass’!

Large enough for Excellent service...

Small enough to care.

Have you joined my birthday alarm? It is fast painless and the best part of all, you will be helping me out.

Because I need your help, subscribe to my blog.

I have both a PC with Vista and a MAC.  The MAC is a fabulous piece of equipment.  I could only scractch the surface learning all of it's features.  It is smart, logical and great.  If you take the time and learn all it can do you will be very happy.  Enjoy.

Scott... Go 4 it... You will be better off in the long run... I have talked to several Mac users and I find very few complaints...

Miriam... I still have to keep my PC for my inspection reporting software but other than that...

Ronald... I agree, after all it IS ALL about the munee...

Bill... Maybe Gates may charge an extra $1,000 for previous Mac owners...

Let me know how this works out.  I have a few MAC friends who keep pushing me to try it but it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks.  VISTA is a nightmare though so I have to learn new tricks all the time.  Hope it is good for you.

Michael, I bought my daughter the macbook and my husband the desktop for Christmas. I had plans to learn it from them. I also signed them up for the year of training. My daughter didn't need it, she is 18 and picked it up quickly.

My husband has told me, I don't want to change over in the busy season in MI.

I am in a delima, went looking for a new laptop, giving my table to my husband for school, he is a teacher, handing down my husbands HP to my son in the Navy.

All I could find was laptops with vista. So I am doing nothing. Thought about ordering straight from HP with XP on it, but I was told at the store when you take it Vista off and add XP it is not good.

Exciting to see your adventure.

Paddy and Missy... Bite the bullet and go Mac... You will not regret it... You can purchase the Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point for Mac that is interchangeable with the PC world for about $150... You can teach an old dog new tricks... I'm getting gray around the muzzle... LOL

Michael, I started with a MAC in 1993 and made the switch to PC 6 years later. My wife has been a MAC user for the last 5 years and I must say with everything I have seen it do, the reduction in steps to do it and the ease with which it is done, it is VERY inticing. Very few glitches, never a security breach issue....EVER and it is now compatible with everything PC world. SOunds like you made the right decision.

Congrats!

BTW, for $99 dollars (I think) you can take one-on-one training classes @ the Apple Store in Green Hills once a week for an hour at a time. My wife has been going to them for 2 years and they have made a remarkable difference. You might want to check into that.

Hi Michael,

Don't hold back, say what you really feel. Man do you have me laughing here!!

Good luck with ole Mac. I am sure your learning curve will be short. Keep usposted.

Enjoy the long weekend, use the free time to learn all about your new system.

Charles... from what I hear Vista is doing every one in...

Bonnie... I love computers too... Vista is making everyone ill...

At the risk of getting hate mail, I like Vista. It has done very well for me on my Toshiba.

Now, I've never used a MAC so I can't compare. I'll look forward Michael to reading your progress reports on using your new MAC machine.
