Questions about building permits for Homes in Colorado Springs ?  -- Part II

 

QUESTION:  I recently purchased a hot tub for my home in Colorado Springs and was told that permits were required to hook it all up. Is this true?

ANSWER:  Yes, anytime new wiring is installed a permit is required.

 

QUESTION:  I saw a home that had a sign posted on it in Palmer Lake that said ‘Stop Work/Work Without Permit".  What does this mean? 

ANSWER:  It means that the contractor is not licensed to work in El Paso County.   

 

QUESTION:  Why are permits and inspections required?  

ANSWERS:  Permits help ensure a minimum standard for construction, electrical, plumbing and mechanical work.

 

QUESTION:  I'm building a new fence around my home in Rockrimmon, do I need a building permit?. 

ANSWER:  Fences less than 6' feet tall do not require a building permit.

 

QUESTIONS:  What projects need a permit?

ANSWER:  Some of the projects that require  permits are:  deck, hot tub, basement finish, room addition, exterior siding and stucco, porch, gazebo, electrical work, water heater, boiler, furnace, air conditioning system, fireplace.   Contact Pikes Peak Regional building department for a more detailed list.

 

QUESTION:  What projects do not require a permit?

ANSWER:  Cosmetic improvements do not require a permit such as house interior and exterior painting, replacing kitchen cabinets and most kitchen appliances, installation of carpet or floor materials.  Contact Pikes Peak Regional building department for a more detailed list.
