Among other things, Florida remains well known for the Florida Everglades, the long stretch of wetlands running down the southern portion of the state. Throughout the years it’s become an important nature preserve and several efforts have been made throughout the years to conserve the “river of grass” and prevent any development that might affect it.

A massive Everglades restoration project is currently being proposed by state officials. It will involve the purchase of over 260 square miles of wetlands from the United States Sugar Corporation in an effort to keep the rivers that flow into Lake Okeechobee safe and intact. On top of keeping the Everglades safe, this major purchase will also enhance water filtration systems to make them much cleaner, thus contributing to a much more environmentally friendly method of filtration and also creating additional reserves for those times when rainfall is scarce.

Besides its importance towards maintaining one of its most significant natural lands, an expansion of the Everglades wetlands also contributes to Florida’s aesthetic appeal which has always been a major driving factor in its popularity as a tourism destination and a state where a Florida vacation rental is quite common. And as everyone knows, its housing options like the Naples real estate market which remains popular for its selection of golf homes are also important in attracting vacationers and in some cases new Florida residents.

At the end of the day however, the importance of preserving natural landmarks and employing a “greener” approach wherever possible remain the most important items regardless of whether Naples real estate or Florida real estate for that matter aren’t the first things on people’s minds these days. Combined with the sunny atmosphere, the Everglades define Florida and it’s always good to know they’ll be sticking around for a long time thanks to conservation efforts.
