Plurk Review

Thumb Up!

I have been experimenting with Plurk for several weeks now and I have found that I really like it better than Twitter. I am not alone in that opinion. Many of the highly trafficked bloggers recently have been posting on Plurk and it is getting excellent reviews.  I recently read stories about Plurk on Problogger, Mashable, and Techipedia there is no doubt that these blogs will bring an audience and contributors to Plurk. If Plurk gets this kind of push from the blogosphere it will gain traction quickly.

One of the obstacles Plurk needs to overcome is the fact that it does not have an OpenAPI. OpenAPI (Application Programming Interface) is a group of technology platforms that allows software to “talk” to other software. OpenAPI is one of the reasons why social media and other Web 2.0 application and websites have been so successful. One of the catalysts for Twitter success was that it plugged into so many other popular websites and widgets so easily. The developers found the niches and made some really useful applications to support Twitter. Plurk is missing the boat here but they will get there quickly if they want to keep building momentum.

What I think works strongly in Plurks favor is that it thrives on discussion whereas Twitter is just a micro-blog post.  The interface is intuitive and well designed and the Plurk dashboard is definitely more fun than Twitter. The site just has a light hearted, fun feel to it. Since Twitters last meltdown Plurk is quickly becoming a personal favorite. Two thumbs up.

Already got you on my list over there.  I am so new to all of these, but I haven't found it easy to add people to plurk.  Just when I get caught up on one thing, there is something new going on!

Is it just me? or are other people getting to the point that enough is enough.  How many different on line social networks and blogs do we need to be part of?   I feel like I can spend my entire work week trying to figure all this stuff out, keeping it updated, etc.  I want to stay technologically updated but every day, there is something new it seems!!!

How many clients are we even attracting through all this stuff?

I have a feeling plurk is going to take off but not until they get the open API in place.

It is hard to sell real estate and stay on top of all the changes.  I started with Plurk but haven't used it.  I can only do a little at a time

Paul - Valid point, social media has its place in a marketing plan. Effort and time needs to be focused on the marketing activities that yield the highest ROI for your business. If Plurk yielded one or two referrals a year would it be worth your time? Use it to stregthen your relationships on AR and expand your national network. More details in a upcomming post.....

I had never heard of Plurk until now...thank you....I will check it out, eventually! I am  with Paul for the most part, there are so many social networks out there, when are we suppose to have time for all of them? That being said, I think they are worth checking out and then deciding which ones we want to invest our time in/on!

Have a great weekend!

Plurk does take some getting used to but I do like it so much better that twitter. Much easier to follow the discussions. To even have a "discussion" for that matter!

This is the first that I have heard of Plurk.  I'm going to go straight over and check it out.  That being said there are so many sites twitter, facebook, linded in, wanna network and the list goes on, plus blogging...social networking becomes a fulltime job in itself and so far it doesn't pay the mortgage but its a lot of fun.

Hmmm.  I signed up for twitter but haven't done a thing.  Now there's Plurk.  By the time I get up to speed maybe Plurk will be the go to place.

I'm starting with Plurk - but like the others I'm sort of getting burned out by all the social networking that makes it harder to focus on what I do for a living - which is sell real estate.

Ruthmarie - Social networking can be a 10 minutes activity in the am and 10 minutes in the pm. It doesnt really take too much time. At minimum you should be using it to promote your latest blog posts and pinging one or two contacts. Quick hits do the trick in a social network.
