I just returned 3 DVDs to the grocery store; since we delayed in returning these, our credit card was charged a whopping $2 per flick or $6 total.  Compared to what I read about the cost of going to see the same flicks at the local cinema ($9 per film, per person?), I can see that the $6 cost was a huge bargain.  My sister lives near a public library & gets her DVDs for free.  When you read about the astronomical salaries that "A-list" stars get per feature & the price of popcorn, sodas, candies, etc., it's easy to understand why the price of admission is so high.  But with available DVDs & large screen TVs, why do we still have cinemas?  I don't consider recent releases to be very compelling entertainment.  Why not wait awhile & catch these same movies at a fraction of the cost or free?

Ronald, I hadn't thought of that angle (date night out).  Thanks for pointing that out!
