The July 4th holiday is the biggest weekend of the summer, and Carlsbad residents and visitors have lots of ways to celebrate. From beaches to family picnics and parties to restaurants to fireworks, there is something of all to enjoy. And of course our fabulous weather which is predicted to be, well, fabulous. And cooler than some of our neighboring cities inland where temps are exceeding 100.
BEACH LIFE
As one would expect, the beaches will be very crowded from Oceanside to San Diego (places like Mission Beach have a reputation for being a mob scene), parking will be a premium so get there early or expect to hike a distance, and traffic will be a challenge so no rushing. If Carlsbad State Beach or one of the other Carlsbad beaches is the site for your festivities this weekend (including Friday), you had best be there before 10 or parking may already be gone.
Planning to camp? Well you might still find some places at the beach but expect they will be full and crowded.
FIREWORKS
Fireworks displays, of course, are a big attraction. The famed La Costa Resort and Spa will feature fireworks as they do every year. This year they will be on the 4th itself – Friday. You don’t have to be a guest to appreciate them, as nearby residents can enjoy them from their homes or simply walk to the resort. Folks in the hills will have terrific views looking down on the golf course to the Batiquitos Lagoon. And of course the views are free. The popular Legoland will also feature a fireworks display Friday evening as part of their Red, White and Boom festivities, and you get to enjoy the famous park to boot. And Carlsbad's Four Seasons Aviara will also feature fireworks Friday night at 9 PM, which are visible from many vantage points.
MUSIC
The well-known Carlsbad TGIF Jazz in the Park concert series continues tomorrow night as well (before it gets dark so you can enjoy the music AND still get to the fireworks) at Stagecoach Park. 6 – 8 PM, bring your picnic and chairs and prepare for some great music from Ruby and The Red Hots (jazz vocals).
Many restaurants will be busy, with more tourists and residents out and about, so plan your time and make reservations NOW.
Whatever you decide to do, make it a safe and fun holiday in Carlsbad.
Jeff,
The real Carlsbad is in New Mexico.
