The Jury in a 10-2 vote has recommended the death penalty in the murder/rape and kidnapping of 9 year Jessica Lunsford today. The verdict came in at about 540 EST. This however is not the end of the story, the judge in the case is the one that actually decides if Couey lives or dies by lethal injection and that decision could still take several weeks. I hope the judge goes with their decision.

I don't care what kind of upbringing anyone had. Rape and Murder are wrong. The defense tried to say Coueys upbringing was the cause of his "troubles" and mental capacity. Recently a friend of mines wife was found guilty of his murder, but she was spared the death penalty because the jury felt sorry for her due to her upbringing and she smiled when she got life. She had her husband, my friend, a father of a small child, killed for his life insurance policy. I thought of this case briefly this morning and wondered if the jury would swing the same way in Couey's case, but then thought nope they'll recommend death, different circumstances.

Lysa, thank you for the update, I will be praying for the Judge to make the right decision, I am for the death penalty in this case, no doubt about it, and scripture upholds this verdict as well.  I agree, it does not matter how one is raised, this is wrong, rape and or murder has no place in our society.  No society for that matter.  Keep us posted.

I can't imagine a stronger case for the need for the death penalty.

Bob, I'm with you in prayer my friend. I'll keep you posted on the judges decision.

Randy, Can't agree with you more. For the first time I saw relief in Marks face as the clerk read the jury's decision.

Any type of facial expressions from Mark could have caused a mistrial in this case so he had to remain emotionless throughout the trial. I finally did see something different in his eyes as he stared Couey down during both phases, and that was sheer hate and anger for the man that took Marks daughter from him.
